Dashu District
Dashu District () is a suburban district located in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan near the Kaoping River. Fo Guang Shan is one of largest tourist attractions in Dashu District. It is also the base of E-Da World, a new lifestyle destination that encompasses the upscale Crowne Plaza Kaohsiung E-Da World hotel, the E-Da Skylark hotel, the E-DA Theme Park, the E-Da Mall, E-Da City (Real Estate Development) and I-Shou University. History After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, Dashu was organized as a rural township of Kaohsiung County. On 25 December 2010, Kaohsiung County was merged with Kaohsiung City and Dashu was upgraded to a district of the city. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. Kao-Ping Hsi Bridge
Kao-Ping Hsi Bridge () is a cable-stayed bridge over the Gaoping River connecting Dashu, Kaohsiung and Jiuru, Pingtung County in Taiwan. The bridge carries the Freeway 3 and was completed in 1999. Jiuqutang Railway Station
Jiuqutang (), formerly spelled Jioucyutang, is a railway station on the Taiwan Railways Administration Pingtung line located in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) is a railway operator in Taiwan. It is an agency of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, responsible for managing, maintaining, and running conventional passenger and freight railway services on 1097 km of track in Taiwan. Taiwan Pineapple Museum
The Taiwan Pineapple Museum () is a museum of pineapple in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The museum is housed in a refurbished factory constructed in 1925 called Jioucyutang Taifang Company, a factory that canned pineapples produced by farms around the region. In 2004, the factory building was listed as a historical monument by the Kaohsiung County Government. The building was then renovated and reopened as Taiwan Pineapple Museum in August 2018. Exhibitions The museum exhibits the history of the Jioucyutang Taifang Company and Dashu District. It also displays an overview of the agriculture activities in the region, especially of the pineapple industry. It has a collection of more than 50 canned pineapple labels produced by the company. Sanhe Tile Kiln
The Sanhe Tile Kiln () is a former tile manufacturing factory in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The original building of the factory was established in 1918. The building used to be the Shunanhao Tile Kiln. It has even since undergone name changing twice, such as Yuan Shun-an Tile Kiln. In 1975, it was renamed to Sanhe Tile Kiln. In 2001, parts of the building was registered as historical site by the government. Architecture The building is made of straw-mixed bricks, red bricks and roof tiles fired in the kiln. Exhibition The former factory gives explanation on brick history, traditional brick production, ancient kiln style, brick community and creative development of bricks and tiles. Ligang Bridge
The Ligang Bridge () is a cable-stayed bridge in Taiwan. It carries Freeway 3 (Second Southern Freeway) across the Gaoping River from Dashu District, Kaohsiung in the northwest and entering Jiuru Township, Pingtung County (although it is named for nearby Ligang). Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum
The Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum (), formerly known as the Buddha Memorial Center, is a Mahāyāna Buddhist cultural, religious, and educational museum located in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The museum is affiliated with Fo Guang Shan, one of Taiwan's largest Buddhist organizations. The museum is located next to the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, the headquarters of the order. The museum houses one of the tooth relics of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of the Buddhist faith. The museum was accepted as the youngest member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 2014. Since 2015, the museum has been certified ISO 50001 2011 by the Quality management system. Fo Guang Shan Monastery
Fo Guang Shan Monastery ( is a Chinese Mahāyāna Buddhist monastery in Dashu District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is the headquarters of the Fo Guang Shan international organization and the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. History In 1967, Hsing Yun purchased more than 30 hectares in Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County as the site for the construction of a monastery. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 16 May 1967. Fo Guang Shan has undertaken many construction projects, including university buildings, shrines, and a cemetery. In 1975, Fo Guang Shan's 36-metre tall statue of Amitābha Buddha was consecrated. In 1981, 15 years after its establishment, the Great Hero Hall was built. During these times, many other Fo Guang Shan temples outside the order's mother monastery were also built.
