' (''The Queen's Lace Handkerchief'') is an operetta by Johann Strauss II. The libretto by Heinrich Bohrmann-Riegen and Richard Genée was based on the Spanish writer Cervantes. It was first performed on 1 October 1880 in Vienna at the Theater an der Wien under the composer's direction by Therese Braunecker-Schäfer, Alexander Girardi, Eugenie Erdösy, Karoline Tellheim, Hermine Meyerhoff, Felix Schweighofer and Ferdinand Schütz. The piece was adapted for Broadway in 1882, with some additional songs by Solomon and Stephens, and (once the new Casino Theatre solved its mechanical problems) ran successfully for 130 performances. The work is rather obscure nowadays, but the waltz "" (Roses from the South), which incorporates melodies from the operetta, is well known. Johann Baptist Strauss II (25 October 1825 – 3 June 1899), also known as Johann Strauss Jr., the Younger or the Son (german: links=no, Sohn), was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Richard Tauber (16 May 1891 – 8 January 1948) was an Austrian tenor and film actor. Early life Richard Tauber was born in Linz, Austria, to Elisabeth Seifferth (née Denemy), a widow and an actress who played soubrette roles at the local theatre, and Richard Anton Tauber, an actor; his parents were not married and his father was reportedly unaware of the birth as he was touring North America at the time. Ernst Theis
Ernst Theis (born 31 July 1961) is an Austrian conductor. From 2003 to 2013 he was chief conductor of the Staatsoperette Dresden. Theis was born in Sierning, the son of Georg and Gertrude Theis. He took trumpet and drum-like instrument lessons at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under conducting guidance from Otmar Suitner and Peter Keyshing. On 5 January 1989 he made his first public appearance with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and then conducted with such Austrian orchestras as the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic and Vienna Symphony. Nadja Stefanoff (born 22 July 1976) is a German operatic soprano based at the Staatstheater Mainz. She began her career as a mezzo-soprano. She has performed leading roles there and as a guest at major opera houses in Europe, such as Marta in Weinberg's ''The Passenger (opera), Die Passagierin '' at the Oper Graz, and Giordano's Fedora (opera), Fedora at the Oper Frankfurt. Voice Type
A voice type is a group of voices with similar vocal ranges, capable of singing in a similar tessitura, and with similar vocal transition points ('' passaggi'').
