Darvel Football Club are a Scottish football club based in the town of Darvel, Ayrshire. Nicknamed ''"The Vale"'' and formed in 1889, the club play at Recreation Park, and currently compete in the . History The club reached the final of the 1975–76 Scottish Junior Cup, but were beaten 3–0 by Bo'ness United. Darvel won the Ayrshire District League title in 2016–17 to gain promotion to the West Super League First Division (renamed as the West Championship), the second tier of the SJFA West Region league structure. The team was managed from June 2013 to November 2017 by Scott Clelland. On 14 February 2019, Darvel announced that Mick Kennedy would be the new manager for the season 2019–20. The club and Blantyre Victoria were declared joint-winners of the West Region Championship in 2019–20 after the season was prematurely halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Daryll Meggatt
Daryll Meggatt (born 20 October 1990) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a left sided defender and co-caretaker manager for Darvel. Meggatt has previously played for Queen's Park, Alloa Athletic (twice), Dundee, Ayr United and East Fife. Career Meggatt began his footballing career at South Camlachie Amateurs, and signed with Queen's Park in June 2010. He made his senior debut on 21 August, in a 1–2 away loss against Albion Rovers. In the 2011–12 season, Meggatt was named in the PFA Scotland Third Division Team of the Year. On 15 May 2012, Meggatt signed with Alloa Athletic. He was a part of the side who achieved promotion to the Scottish Championship in his first season, and made his division debut on 10 August 2013, in a 1–0 home win over Livingston. Darvel ( sco, Dairvel, gd, Darbhail) is a small town in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It is at the eastern end of the Irvine Valley and is sometimes referred to as "The Lang Toon" ( en, the Long Town). The town's Latin motto, , means "Not for ourselves, but for others". Location Darvel is situated on the A71 road that runs from Irvine on the west coast to Edinburgh on the east. The town is east of Kilmarnock and is the most easterly of the Irvine Valley Towns, the others being Galston and Newmilns. The town was once linked with Stonehouse (via Strathaven) by the Caledonian Railway. However, the line was closed by the LMS before the Second World War. The former Glasgow and South Western Railway branch line to Kilmarnock survived for much longer and was closed in 1964 as part of the Beeching Axe. The Scottish Junior Football Ayrshire Division One (also known as the Ayrshire District League) was the third-tier division of the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association. Lewis Morrison (born 12 March 1999) is a Scottish footballer, who plays for Hurlford United. He has previously played in the Scottish Premiership for Kilmarnock. Club career Morrison began his career at Kilmarnock and made his professional debut in the Scottish Premiership on 24 September 2016 in a game against Celtic. In March 2017, he was farmed out to his hometown club, Kilwinning Rangers, who play in the West of Scotland Super League Premier Division. Morrison was released from his Kilmarnock contract before his loan period at Kilwinning expired, but joined St Mirren in the summer of 2017. Ross Caldwell (born 26 October 1993) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a midfielder or striker for Darvel. Caldwell has previously played for Hibernian, Alloa Athletic, St Mirren, Greenock Morton, Ayr United, Cowdenbeath, Brechin City, and Blantyre Victoria. Career Caldwell, who was educated at Hamilton Grammar School, started playing football relatively late in childhood. He played for various boys teams before joining the youth system of Edinburgh professional club Hibernian (Hibs). Hibs manager Pat Fenlon added Caldwell to the first team squad soon after he took charge in November 2011. Thomas Reilly (born 15 September 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder or forward for Darvel. He has also played for St Mirren, Elgin City, Forfar Athletic and Kelty Hearts, as well as Albion Rovers on loan. Club career St Mirren Reilly was born in Irvine.
