Dark Journey (film)
''Dark Journey'' is a 1937 British spy film directed by Victor Saville and starring Conrad Veidt and Vivien Leigh. Written by Lajos Bíró and Arthur Wimperis, the film is about two secret agents on opposite sides during World War I who meet and fall in love in neutral Stockholm. It was shot at Denham Studios, with sets designed by the art director Andrej Andrejew assisted by Ferdinand Bellan. The film's costumes were by René Hubert. Plot In the spring of 1918, a German U-boat stops a Dutch freighter on its way to Stockholm, Sweden during the final year of World War I. The Germans board the ship, identify one man as a Belgian spy, and take him prisoner. One of the passengers questioned is an attractive Swiss dress shop owner named Madeleine Goddard ( Vivien Leigh) who is returning to Stockholm from a business trip to Paris, where she purchased dresses for her boutique. Victor Saville
Victor Saville (25 September 1895 – 8 May 1979) was an English film director, producer, and screenwriter. He directed 39 films between 1927 and 1954. He also produced 36 films between 1923 and 1962. Biography Saville produced his first film, '' Woman to Woman'', with Michael Balcon in 1923, and on the back of its success produced pictures for the veteran director Maurice Elvey, including the classic British silent '' Hindle Wakes'' (1927). His first picture as director was '' The Arcadians'' (1927). In 1929 he and Balcon worked together again on a talkie remake of ''Woman to Woman'' for Balcon's company, Gainsborough Pictures. This time Saville directed it. Joan Gardner (British Actress)
Joan Gardner (born Joan Gardener, 26 October 1914 – 17 September 1999) was a British actress. Gardner was born in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. She made her stage debut immediately on leaving school and by age 18 had achieved success there. Anthony Bushell
Anthony Arnatt Bushell (19 May 1904 – 2 April 1997) was an English film actor and director who appeared in more than 50 films between 1929 and 1961. He played Colonel Breen in the BBC serial ''Quatermass and the Pit'' (1958–59), and also appeared in and directed various British TV series such as ''Danger Man''. The Imperial German Navy or the Imperial Navy () was the navy of the German Empire, which existed between 1871 and 1919. In the field of counterintelligence, a double agent is an employee of a secret intelligence service for one country, whose primary purpose is to spy on a target organization of another country, but who is now spying on their own country's organization for the target organization. U-boat
U-boats were naval submarines operated by Germany, particularly in the First and Second World Wars.
