Daria Leonidovna Virolaynen, née Reztsova, (russian: Дарья Леонидовна Виролайнен, fi, Darja Leonidovna Virolainen; born 24 January 1989) is a Russian biathlete. Career Virolaynen was born in Moscow. Her mother is biathlete and cross country skier Anfisa Reztsova. Virolaynen debuted at the World Cup on 6 March 2014, when she got second place in the sprint event in Pokljuka. Earlier in the year Virolaynen had finished third in the pursuit competition at the European Championships. The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 Biathlon World Cup, 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 Biathlon World Cup, 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 Biathlon World Cup, 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans. Competition and format The World Cup season lasts from November or December to late March, with meetings in a different venue every week excluding some holidays and a couple of weeks before the season's major championships (World Championships or Winter Olympics). Rasen-Antholz (; it, Rasun-Anterselva ) is a municipality in South Tyrol in northern Italy. Geography The municipal area stretches along the Antholz valley, a northern side valley of the larger Puster Valley. The Pokljuka Plateau () is a forested karst plateau at an elevation of around , located in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. The plateau is known for its forests, mountain pastures (Javornik, Lipanca, Uskovnica, Zajamniki, etc.), and winter sports facilities. It is also a common starting point for mountain hikers. The yearly Biathlon World Cup meets are held at the Pokljuka Biathlon Center, west of the town of Bled ( by car). Pokljuka is part of Triglav National Park. Anfisa Anatolyevna Reztsova (russian: Анфиса Анатольевна Резцова, née Romanova, Романова; born 16 December 1964) is a former Soviet and Russian biathlete and cross-country skier who competed in both sports from 1985 to 2000. Career In Soviet times, she trained at Dynamo in Vladimir. She earned a total of five medals in the Winter Olympics, including three golds (1988: cross country 4 × 5 km relay, 1992: biathlon 7.5 km, 1994: biathlon 4 × 7.5 km relay), one silver (1988: cross country 20 km), and one bronze (1992: biathlon 3 × 7.5 km relay). She is notable for performing the feat of being the only person to win Olympic gold medals in both cross-country skiing and biathlon.
