Dara Ahmed ( Assamese:দাৰা আহমেদ) was an Indian film director known for films like Rickshawala, Jakhini, Bordoisila and Pooja. He entered the Assamese Film industry as an assistant director in the film Dr Bazbarua. He died on 24 May 2021, at the age of 72 in Guwahati. Sivasagar
Sivasagar (Pron: or ) ("the sea of Shiva"), is a city in and headquarters of the Sivasagar district, Assam. Sivasagar is situated about 360 kilometers (224 mi) northeast of Guwahati. It is well known for its Ahom palaces and monuments. Sivasagar is an important centre for tea and oil industries today. Sivasagar is a part of Jorhat (Lok Sabha constituency). Akhil Gogoi is the current MLA of Sibsagar (Vidhan Sabha constituency). History Sivasagar, formerly known as Rangpur, was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom from 1699 to 1788. Eli Ahmed
Eli Ahmed is an Indian writer, scriptwriter, director, lyricist, costume designer, actress and social activist. She is also the editor, publisher and proprietor of ‘Orani’, the women's magazine. It is the only women's magazine in the Northeast since 1970. She had also organised the first women's drama group in Assam in 1967. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2017 for her contribution to literature and education. Early life Eli Ahmed was born in an aristocratic family in Nazira. Her father Abdur Rashid, was a surgeon. She lost her mother at a young age. She traces her roots to one of the five Parsi families referred to in Medini Mohan Choudhury's book ''Luit, Barak and Islam''. Eli is known by different names to many. Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a ''lingua franca'' of the wider region. Nazira
Nazira (IPA: nəˈzɪərə) is a town and a municipal board in Sivasagar district in the Indian state of Assam. Nazira is a historical town on the bank of the Dikhow River. It is around 18 km from Sivasagar city, 3 km from Simaluguri Jn. and 78 km from Jorhat Airport. It is the Sub-divisional Head Office of Nazira Sub-division. History Nazira was an important place in the Ahom Kingdom. Nearby Gargaon was the capital of the kingdom over a long period. According to tradition Nazira got its name from "Now-Jeera", which in Assamese means resting place of boats. The historian Sarbananda Rajkumar states, however, that ''nazira'' is a Tai Ahom word: ''na'' means "land", ''zi'' "inclined" and ''ra'' "much". Therefore ''nazira'' means a "much inclined land". ''Chameli Memsaab'' (English: Madame Chameli) is a 1975 Indian Assamese romantic drama film directed by Abdul Majid. A love story set in a tea estate in Assam, between a British tea estate owner and local tea garden worker. It starred George Baker and Binita Borgohain as leads. The film is based on a short story by journalist and writer, Nirode Choudhury. The film was both a critical and commercial success, lead actor Baker turned into a matinee idol. At the 1975 National Film Awards, the film won the award for Best Music Direction for Bhupen Hazarika, as well as Best Feature Film in Assamese.
