Dansville, Livingston County, New York
Dansville is a village in the town of North Dansville, with a small northern part in the town of Sparta in Livingston County, in western New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village population was 4,433. The village is named after Daniel Faulkner, an early European-American settler. Interstate 390 passes the west side of the village. History Daniel Faulkner founded the village in 1795. This was land ceded by the Iroquois tribes to the United States after the Revolutionary War, as four of the tribes had been allies of the defeated British forces. When Livingston County was created, the village was included in the town of Sparta. Dansville became an incorporated village in 1845. A spa was opened in 1854, eventually attracted many prominent people to Dansville for the water cure. Dansville is a town in Steuben County, New York, United States, not to be confused with the nearby village of Dansville in Livingston County. The population was 1,842 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Daniel Faulkner. The Town of Dansville is in the northwest corner of the county, north of Hornell. Dansville Library
Dansville Library is a historic library located at Dansville in Livingston County, New York. It is a large two story Neoclassical style frame structure. It is dramatically enhanced by a pedimented, giant portico covering its full width. The portico features four Doric columns, an elaborate frieze with triglyphs and rosettes, a modillion cornice, and a semi-elliptical fan decoration in the cornice. The earliest section was built in 1823 as a private home for Joshua Shepard (1780–1829). The Shepard family donated the house for use as a library in 1923. Wayland, New York
Wayland is a town in Steuben County, New York, United States. The population was 3,733 at the 2020 census. The Town of Wayland contains a village called Wayland. The town is in the northern part of the county, northwest of Bath. History The region was first settled by European Americans around 1806, after the Revolutionary War. Groveland, New York
Groveland is a town in Livingston County, New York, United States. The population was 3,249 at the 2010 census. The town is centrally located in the county, south of Geneseo. History The Sullivan Expedition (1779) reached its farthest extent here. Groveland was the site of the Boyd and Parker ambush. In 1792, the first planned European American settlement in Livingston County was located in Groveland and was called "Willamsburgh" after Sir William Pulteney, a land speculator. The town was formed in 1789 as part of Ontario County, later becoming part of Livingston County when it was formed in 1821. Part of Groveland was used to form part of the town of Conesus (1819). The Erie Lackawanna Railway , known as the Erie Lackawanna Railroad until 1968, was formed from the 1960 merger of the Erie Railroad and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. Jackson Sanatorium (also known as, Our Home on the Hillside, Home Hygienic Institute, Jackson Health Resort) was a historical mineral spa in Dansville, Livingston County, New York, attracted many prominent people to Dansville for the water cure. Operated for many years by the Jackson family, its operations dated to 1852 when water cures were in growing favor. Dansville had a spring gushing from the hillside, "All Healing Spring", which was supposed to have curative properties. As these water cures were located near some noted springs, "the Home on the Hillside" was created and the institution was ready for occupancy in 1853. In 1890, the old name of the company, "Our Home Hygienic Institute" was changed to "The Jackson Sanitorium". In 1904, the name was again changed to "The Jackson Health Resort".
