Daniel Lynch (basketball)
Daniel J. Lynch (1916–1981) was the former athletic director and basketball coach at St. Francis College. Lynch was also a noted public speaker, regularly addressing civic and sports groups. Lynch was often referred to as, ''The Smiling Irishman''. Biography Daniel Lynch graduated from St. Francis College in 1938. He played on the College's basketball team from 1934–1938 and was the team's Captain. Lynch then went on to become the basketball head coach at his Alma Mater from 1948–1969. In 1964 he was appointed as the Athletic Director of St. Francis College, a post he held for eleven years, until 1975. One of Lynch's sons, Daniel Lynch Jr., also attended St. Francis College and is a graduate of the 1970 class. Lynch was one of the original proponents of the Three-point field goal. Dan Lynch
Daniel Lynch (born June 21, 1962) is a former college and professional American football offensive guard; he attended Washington State University; he was inducted to their athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. Lynch went on to a career in the venture capital industry in Central and Eastern Europe. Football career Lynch attended Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, Washington. From 1980 to 1984, he played college football for the Washington State Cougars, where he started for four years. After completing his senior season with the 1983 Cougars and was named 1st Team All-Pac 10, 2nd Team All-American (Sporting News) and played in the January 1984 Senior Bowl all-star game, and was subsequently granted an extra year of eligibility and played for the 1984 Cougars. Daniel Joseph Francis Lynch (6 March 1854 – 3 December 1920) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played nine first-class matches for Auckland between 1877 and 1890. Lynch's performances for Auckland against touring Australian teams were notable. When the Australians played an Auckland XXII in February 1878, Lynch opened the bowling and bowled through their innings, except for two overs, taking 5 for 67 in a total of 175. The Australians' most successful batsman on the tour, Charles Bannerman, rated Lynch as the most difficult bowler the Australians faced in New Zealand. Three years later, against the 1880-81 Australians, he took 7 for 46 in the second innings. Against the 1886-87 Australians he top-scored for the Auckland XXII with 46 in the first innings; no one else made more than 11 in either of Auckland's innings. Daniel A. Lynch (born November 17, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021. Amateur career Lynch played baseball at Douglas S. Freeman High School in Henrico, Virginia. As a junior, he compiled a 0.97 ERA. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Virginia where he played for the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team. During his freshman year at Virginia, he appeared in 13 games with nine starts and went 1–3 with a 5.49 earned run average (ERA) and 37 strikeouts. As a sophomore, he made 14 starts, going 7–5 with a 5.00 ERA with 45 strikeouts. The following summer in 2017, he pitched for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League, where he made six starts and posted a 4–0 record with a 2.04 ERA and 25 strikeouts and was named a league all-star. Matthew Daniel Lynch Jr. (February 7, 1926 – June 30, 1978) was an American professional baseball player. He played briefly in Major League Baseball, for the Chicago Cubs in 1948. Biography A native of Dallas, Texas, Lynch was a paratrooper in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he attended Southern Methodist University (SMU), where he played both baseball and basketball. The 1947 edition of ''The Rotunda'', SMU's yearbook, includes a baseball team photo with both Lynch and future Heisman Trophy winner Doak Walker. Lynch's father, who shared the same name, had played in the minor leagues for a decade as a middle infielder. The younger Lynch was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in June 1948, and played 91 games for the minor league Waco Pirates. However, in September 1948, Lynch was declared a free agent after Commissioner of Baseball Happy Chandler ruled that the Pirates had hired the elder Lynch as a scout as a way to hide a bonus payment. ... The History of the Berkeley Software Distribution begins in the 1970s. 1BSD (PDP-11) The earliest distributions of Unix from Bell Labs in the 1970s included the source code to the operating system, allowing researchers at universities to modify and extend Unix. The operating system arrived at Berkeley in 1974, at the request of computer science professor Bob Fabry who had been on the program committee for the Symposium on Operating Systems Principles where Unix was first presented. A PDP-11/45 was bought to run the system, but for budgetary reasons, this machine was shared with the mathematics and statistics groups at Berkeley, who used RSTS, so that Unix only ran on the machine eight hours per day (sometimes during the day, sometimes during the night). A larger PDP-11/70 was installed at Berkeley the following year, using money from the Ingres database project. Katie Piper
Kate Elizabeth Sutton (née Piper; born 12 October 1983) is an English writer, activist, television presenter and model from Andover, Hampshire. In March 2008, she was attacked with acid by her ex-boyfriend and an accomplice, causing major damage to her face and blindness in one eye. Piper underwent pioneering surgery to restore her face and vision. Both attackers were convicted and given life sentences. In 2018, one of the attackers was released after serving nine years in prison. In 2009, Piper gave up her right to anonymity in order to increase awareness about burn victims.
