Dan Lynch (cricketer)
Daniel Joseph Francis Lynch (6 March 1854 – 3 December 1920) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played nine first-class matches for Auckland between 1877 and 1890. Lynch's performances for Auckland against touring Australian teams were notable. When the Australians played an Auckland XXII in February 1878, Lynch opened the bowling and bowled through their innings, except for two overs, taking 5 for 67 in a total of 175. The Australians' most successful batsman on the tour, Charles Bannerman, rated Lynch as the most difficult bowler the Australians faced in New Zealand. Three years later, against the 1880-81 Australians, he took 7 for 46 in the second innings. Against the 1886-87 Australians he top-scored for the Auckland XXII with 46 in the first innings; no one else made more than 11 in either of Auckland's innings. Otago Cricket Team
The Otago cricket team, nicknamed the Volts since the 1997–98 season, are a New Zealand first-class cricket team which first played representative cricket in 1864. The team represents the Otago, Southland and North Otago regions of New Zealand's South Island. Their main governing board is the Otago Cricket Association which is one of six major associations that make up New Zealand Cricket. The team plays most of its home games at the University Oval in Dunedin, but occasionally plays games at the Events Centre in Queenstown, Queen's Park Ground in Invercargill and Molyneux Park in Alexandra. The team plays first-class, List A and Twenty20 matches against other New Zealand provincial sides, although in the past has also played against touring sides. Australian Cricket Team In New Zealand In 1886–87
The Australian cricket team toured New Zealand in late November and early December 1886. It was Australia's third tour of New Zealand, after tours in 1877-78 and 1880-81, and the shortest of the three. The Australians played five matches against provincial teams, four of which fielded 22 players (the other team, Canterbury, fielded 18) with the aim of providing more evenly-matched contests. As the matches were not 11-a-side they are not considered to have been first-class. The Australians won two of the matches and drew the other three. The Australian cricket team toured New Zealand in January and February 1881. The Australians played ten matches against provincial teams, nine of which fielded 22 players (the other team, Canterbury, fielded 15) with the aim of providing more evenly-matched contests. Charles Bannerman
Charles Bannerman (3 July 1851 – 20 August 1930) was an English-born Australian cricketer. A right-handed batsman, he represented Australia in three Test matches between 1877 and 1879. At the domestic level, he played for the New South Wales cricket team. Later, he became an umpire. He is most famous for facing the first ball ever bowled in Test cricket, scoring the first run in Test cricket and making the first Test century. This innings of 165 remains the highest individual share of a completed team innings in Test cricket history, despite more than 2,000 Test matches being played since that first Test.
