Danilowicz is a Polish-language surname of, among others, a noble family of Rutheninan origin and Jews with roots in Danilavičy, Belarus and other place names which include "Daniłowicz" (including the form "Daniłowicze") in their names. Its archaic feminine forms are Daniłowiczówna (unmarried) and Daniłowiczówa (married). A transliteration of its Ruthenian/Russian form is Danilovich, Ukrainian: Danilovych, Belarusian: Danilavich/Danilovich. Jan Daniłowicz (1570–1628) was a Polish nobleman, voivode of the Ruthenian Voivodeship and grandfather of King Jan III Sobieski. He was voivode of the Ruthenian Voivodship since 1613, castellan of Lviv since 1612, Great Krajczy of the Crown since 1600, Great Podczaszy of the Crown, łowczy of Belz, starost of Belz, Busk, Korsuń and Chyhyryn. In his youth he fought with the Tatars. In 1594 he participated in the suppression of the Nalyvaiko Uprising. Teofila Zofia Sobieska, née Daniłowicz (Polish: ''Daniłowiczówna'') (1607 – 27 November 1661) was a Polish noblewoman (''szlachcianka''), mother of Jan III Sobieski, King of Poland. Zofia Teofila was the daughter of Voivode of Ruthenia Jan Daniłowicz and Zofia Żółkiewska, the daughter of Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski h. Lubicz. Mikołaj Daniłowicz
Mikołaj Daniłowicz (c. 1558 – 30 May 1624) was a Polish–Lithuanian nobleman and politician. He was Castellan of Lviv from 1614, Treasurer of the Crown Court from 1610, Grand Treasurer of the Crown from 1617, Speaker of the Sejm in 1593, amongst many other positions as governors of various states. Educated in 1581 at the University of Dillingen, he went to Sweden during the rule of Sigismund III Vasa. He took part in the Jan Zamoyski expedition and during the Zebrzydowski rebellion took the side of the ruler. In 1607 he was envoy to Turkey. In 1621 he erected a manor house in Warsaw, destroyed during the Swedish invasion, and was rebuilt as the Zaluski Library ( Bibliotekę Załuskich). Jan Mikołaj Daniłowicz (born 1607 in Vilnius – 20 November 1650) was a Polish–Lithuanian noble and politician. Crown Podstoli from 1620, Crown Court Treasurer from 1627, and from 1632, Grand Crown Treasurer. He was the son of Mikołaj Daniłowicz, Grand Crown Treasurer from 1617 to 1624. Known as a skillful administrator and commended for the ability to gather funds for the Polish-Swedish wars and Smolensk War. At the same time he was one of the wealthiest, if not ''the'' wealthiest, magnates in the Commonwealth. He married Sophie Tęczyńską, the daughter of Gabriel Tęczyński. Ruthenian and Ruthene are exonyms of Latin origin, formerly used in Eastern and Central Europe as common ethnonyms for East Slavs, particularly during the late medieval and early modern periods.
