Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. As central midfielders often go across boundaries, with mobility and passing ability, they are often referred to as deep-lying midfielders, play-makers, box-to-box midfielders, or holding midfielders. There are also attacking midfielders with limited defensive assignments. The size of midfield units on a team and their assigned roles depend on what formation is used; the unit of these players on the pitch is commonly referred to as the midfield. Its name derives from the fact that midfield units typically make up the in-between units to the defensive units and forward units of a formation. Managers frequently assign one or more midfielders to disrupt the opposing team's attacks, while others may be tasked with creating goals, or have equal responsibilities between attack and defence. Caso Genoa
Caso Genoa was an Italian football scandal in 2005. In the 2004–05 Serie B season, Genoa won the Serie B championship and were set to be promoted to the Serie A for the first time in 10 years. Genoa went into their final match of the season against Venezia on 11 June 2005, having already secured at least promotion play-off, and beat Venezia 3–2. However, three days later, it was discovered that Stefano Capozucca, a director of Genoa, had paid Venezia director Giuseppe Pagliara €250,000 for his team to intentionally lose the match. It was later found that the principal protagonists behind the scandal were Genoa's president, Enrico Preziosi, and Venezia's president, Franco Dal Cin. On 8 August 2005, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) determined that Genoa would be relegated to Serie C1 with a three-point penalty; it was the second time in Genoa's history that they had dropped out of the top two divisions, the first being in 1970. Co-ownership (football)
Co-ownership is a system whereby two football clubs own the contract of a player jointly, although the player is only registered to play for one club. It is not a universal system, but is used in some countries, including Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. It was formerly commonplace in Italy, though the practice has now been abolished there. This type of deal differs from third-party ownership, in that in the latter, the player's contract is owned by a non-footballing entity, such as a management company. Italy Co-ownership deals were common in Italian football, before being banned at the end of the 2014–15 season. The practice was sanctioned in Article 102 bis of the FIGC Internal Organizational Regulations (''Norme Organizzative Interne della FIGC'') and were officially known as "participation rights" (''diritti di partecipazione''). For a co-ownership to be set, a player needed to be signed to a team and have at least two years left in their contract. It worked as a regular tr ...
