Daniel Zmeko
General Daniel Zmeko (born November 24, 1967 in Nové Mesto nad Váhom) is a Slovak military leader who is the current Chief of the General Staff (Slovakia), Chief of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces. Biography He was born on 24 November 1967 in Nové Mesto nad Váhom in the then-Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. He joined the Czechoslovak People's Army in 1982 at the age of 14. He attended the Military Secondary High School in Banská Bystrica from 1982-1986. He was enrolled in the Land Forces College at Vyškov na Morave from 1986-1990. He was one of the first to complete the National Defense Course at the General Milan Rastislav Štefánik Slovak Armed Forces Academy. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom. On 26 April 2018, Zmeko was appointed to this post and promoted to lieutenant general. His position and rank entered into force on 7 May. Nové Mesto nad Váhom (; german: Neustadt an der Waag, Neustadtl, Waag-Neustadtl, Waagneustadtl, Waag-Neustadt; hu, Vágújhely, Vág-Újhely) is a town in the Trenčín Region of Slovakia. The Czechoslovak People's Army ( cs, Československá lidová armáda, sk, Československá ľudová armáda, ČSLA) was the armed forces of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic from 1954 until 1989. Milan Rastislav Štefánik
Milan Rastislav Štefánik (; 21 July 1880 – 4 May 1919) was a Slovak politician, diplomat, aviator and astronomer. During World War I, he served at the same time as a general in the French Army and as Minister of War for Czechoslovakia. As one of the leading members of the Czechoslovak National Council (the resistance government), he contributed decisively to the cause of Czechoslovak sovereignty, since the status of Czech- and Slovak-populated territories was one of those in question until shortly before the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in 1918.
