Daniel Webster Warner
Daniel Webster Warner (October 1, 1857 – May 14, 1933) was a farmer, rancher and Canadian federal politician. Warner first ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada in the 1917 Canadian federal election in the Battle River district. He ran in that election as a Laurier Liberal candidate and was defeated in a close race by Unionist candidate William John Blair. Warner would run again in the 1921 Canadian federal election this time as a Progressive Party of Canada candidate. He would defeat incumbent Conservative James McCrie Douglas and another candidate in a landslide. Warner served 1 term in Federal Parliament before attempting re-election in the 1925 Canadian federal election His electoral district of Strathcona was abolished so he ran in the new Wetaskiwin district. Strathcona (electoral District)
Strathcona was a federal electoral district in the Northwest Territories and Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1925. It was centred on the town (later city) of Strathcona, later a part of Edmonton. When it was created, the riding was part of the North-West Territories. It was huge. It stretched from the present western boundary of Alberta (at the time the western boundary of the provisional district of Alberta) east well into what is now the Province of Saskatchewan. It was wholly on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River, while Edmonton was on the north side. In 1905, when Saskatchewan and Alberta became provinces, the riding found itself split between them. In 1907, it was redrawn to fall entirely in Alberta, with the Saskatchewan part being transferred to the Battleford riding. 1925 Canadian Federal Election
The 1925 Canadian federal election was held on October 29, 1925 to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 15th Parliament of Canada. The Conservative party took the most seats in the House of Commons, although not a majority. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was invited to form a minority government. Unlike the Conservative party, King's Liberals had the conditional support of the many Farmer/Progressive MPs. The government fell the following year. Governor General Baron Byng of Vimy offered the Conservatives under Meighen a chance to form government. This too fell in short order. Byng's action precipitated the " King–Byng Affair", which became the main issue of the 1926 election. Stanley Tobin
Stanley Gilbert Tobin (January 19, 1871 - June 12, 1948) was a farmer, businessman, teacher and political figure in Alberta, Canada. Tobin served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and a Member of the House of Commons of Canada. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Tobin ran in the Leduc provincial electoral district in the 1913 Alberta general election. He was elected in a hotly contested election by just over 100 votes against Conservative George Curry. He would see re-election in 1917 and in 1921. His plurality in the 1921 election was just 10 votes. Stanley vacated his provincial seat in 1925 to run in the 1925 Canadian federal election in the Wetaskiwin Federal electoral district. 1921 Canadian Federal Election
The 1921 Canadian federal election was held on December 6, 1921, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 14th Parliament of Canada. The Union government that had governed Canada through the First World War was defeated, and replaced by a Liberal government under the young leader William Lyon Mackenzie King. A new third party, the Progressive Party, won the second most seats in the election. Since the 1911 election, the country had been governed by the Conservatives, first under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Borden and then under Prime Minister Arthur Meighen. During the war, the Conservatives had united with the pro-conscription Liberal-Unionists and formed a Union government. A number of Members of Parliament (MPs), mostly Quebecers, stayed loyal to Sir Wilfrid Laurier, however, and they maintained their independence.
