''Daniel'' is an anonymous Old English poem based loosely on the Biblical Book of Daniel, found in the Junius Manuscript. The author and the date of ''Daniel'' are unknown. Critics have argued that Cædmon is the author of the poem, but this theory has been since disproved. ''Daniel'', as it is preserved, is 764 lines long. There have been numerous arguments that there was originally more to this poem than survives today. The majority of scholars, however, dismiss these arguments with the evidence that the text finishes at the bottom of a page, and that there is a simple point, which translators assume indicates the end of a complete sentence. Daniel McFarlan Moore (February 27, 1869 – June 15, 1936) was a U.S. electrical engineer and inventor. He developed a novel light source, the "Moore lamp", and a business that produced them in the early 1900s. The Moore lamp was the first commercially viable light-source based on gas discharges instead of incandescence; it was the predecessor to contemporary neon lighting and fluorescent lighting. Dan Tyler Moore Jr. was an American intelligence officer, SEC regional commissioner, businessman, public speaker, and author. Though involved in many fields and careers during his lifetime, he is perhaps best remembered today for his 1957 pulp novel ''The Terrible Game,'' which served as the basis for the 1985 cult film '' Gymkata''. Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore (July 30, 1940, Oakland, California – April 18, 2016, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was a U.S. poet, essayist and librettist. In 1970 he converted to the Sufi tradition of Islam and changed his name to Abdal-Hayy (eventually merging it with his birth-name). He then created works such as ''Ramadan Sonnets'' (1996) and ''The Blind Beekeeper'' (2002), most works being self-published. Danny Roy Moore (August 9, 1925 – c. 2020) was an American politician who was a conservative Democratic member of the Louisiana State Senate for one term, from 1964 until 1968. Moore was born in Haynesville, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, the son of Capitola Touchstone Moore and Arthur Roy Moore, and brother of Catherine Moore Walker Hansbrough, George Donald Moore and Mary Celia Moore Sawyer. Daniel Charles Moore (December 13, 1801 – October 12, 1890) was a merchant, ship owner and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented King's County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1847 to 1855, from 1861 to 1867 and from 1871 to 1874. Dan Tyler Moore (February 9, 1877 – April 14, 1941) was a career U.S. Army officer and an aide to President Theodore Roosevelt. He was also a cousin of the First Lady, Edith Roosevelt. An avid amateur boxer, and a sparring partner for Roosevelt, he struck the President in the eye, causing him to lose much of the sight of that eye. Early life Moore was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on February 9, 1877. He came from a family with a strong military heritage, and was the great-great-nephew of Aaron Burr.
