Quartet (Ultravox Album)
''Quartet'' is the sixth studio album by the British new wave band Ultravox. The album peaked at no.6 on the UK Albums Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI in December 1982 for 100,000 copies sold. It also peaked at #13 in Germany, and at #61 in the United States. Background After three albums produced by Conny Plank, Ultravox dropped their longtime producer. Vocalist/guitarist Midge Ure explained, ''"It was getting a bit safe. We knew if we recorded with him again it would be great and we'd be really happy. But there would be no excitement."'' Quartet was produced by George Martin, most notable for his work with The Beatles. The album was recorded 1982 in Air Studios June to July in London, July to August in Montserrat. George Martin chose to take the job because his daughter was an Ultravox fan. He said in 1983 in the Monument video: ''"They are without a doubt the most musical group I have come across in recent years."'' The cover artwork was designed by Peter Savill ...

All In One Day
"All in One Day" is the final single from Ultravox's 1986 album, ''U-Vox'', released on 8 June 1987. It was the last Ultravox release during their most popular 1980's incarnation with Midge Ure (until 2012). The song was written as a tribute to the Live Aid event and the orchestra was arranged and conducted by George Martin. It is one of Ultravox's lowest-charting singles, stalling at No. 88 in the UK charts. Ure said about the track in 1986: ''"We asked George Martin to arrange an orchestra for it. Billy did some stuff on it, but the rest of us just sat back and watched the orchestra play, which was quite nice, watching someone else perform it for you."''U-Vox Tour Program 1986 Track listings 7" version # "All in One Day" – 4:17 # "The Prize" (live 6 Nov 86 at Wembley Arena, London) - 4:56 12" version # "All in One Day" (Unedited Version) – 5:13 # "The Prize (live 6 Nov 86 at Wembley Arena, London)" – 4:56 # "Stateless" – 2:51 Charts References

U-Vox
''U-Vox'' is the eighth studio album by British new wave band Ultravox, released on 9 October 1986 by Chrysalis Records. It was the band's fifth album during the Midge Ure era, and the final one featuring the band's 1979 lineup, with the exception of Warren Cann, for nearly 26 years. The Ure-era lineup would eventually reform in 2008. It was also the last Ultravox album to reach the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number nine. Background Despite reaching the UK top 10, the album was not as successful as the previous Ultravox albums from the 1980s and contained no top-20 singles (with "Same Old Story" and "All Fall Down" reaching numbers 31 and 30, respectively). In addition, drummer Warren Cann was unceremoniously dumped by the band, due to "musical differences", before recording the album. The drums on the album were played by Mark Brzezicki from Big Country. Billy Currie shared in a 1989 interview “We had some problems with the rhythm section, and we wound up ki ...

All Fall Down (Ultravox Song)
"All Fall Down" is the second single from Ultravox's 1986 album ''U-Vox'', released on 19 November 1986. The song's lyrics carry a strong anti-war sentiment. The Chieftains also guest-performed on All Fall Down. Background Ure said in 1986: 'Although we said it before, the main difference is that we´ve no barriers whatsoever, we let its song and its arrangement dictate what that song should sound like. So a song like "All Fall Down" was like you´d imagine a Jacques Brel Celtic protest song to sound, it has a very strong celtic folk feel, with acoustic guitars and instruments. So we used Chieftains on it, went over to Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin to record them. Although at the time the idea sounded really bizarre, the combination of us and them, a band who supposedly uses technology to its utmost and this band who uses no technology at all, that combination works really well.' Ure said in 2012: 'The album "U-VOX" is a mess and displays a band falling apart, but in "All Fal ...

Love's Great Adventure
"Love's Great Adventure" is a single released by Ultravox on 12 October 1984. Having enjoyed massive radio airplay that autumn, the single became Ultravox's thirteenth Top 30 single in Britain, and was their last major hit in the UK, peaking at #12 in the UK Singles Chart. The style of this single is different from any of their preceding ''Lament'' singles, aiming for a more lightweight, pop-oriented approach. Background The music video was filmed in Kenya and features the band members in a humorous parody of Indiana Jones, with Midge Ure being chased across deserts and forests by a ruthless treasure hunter. Midge Ure stated in his autobiography, ''If I Was'', that the aim of the single and its video was to promote Ultravox as having a sense of humour, away from the seriousness of their previous releases. Also in the video is Ure's future wife Annabel Giles. The music in the video stops halfway through where a seemingly exhausted Midge Ure, tired from minutes of endless runnin ...

Reap The Wild Wind (song)
"Reap the Wild Wind" is Ultravox's first single from the '' Quartet'' album, recorded in Air Studios Associated Independent Recording (AIR) is an independent recording company founded in London in 1965 by record producer Sir George Martin and his business partner John Burgess, after their departure from Parlophone. The studio complex was founded ..., in London and Montserrat and released on Chrysalis Records on 16 September 1982. "Reap the Wild Wind" was also the opening song for Ultravox when they performed at the 1985 Live Aid concert. Midge Ure said in 2018: "'Reap the Wild Wind' is all about the melody and the rhythm of the song. We used the words and the voice, as a rhythmic sound, almost like an instrument itself. But actually, most of my old songs is a canvas of words. One line does not necessarily connect to the next. Take "Reap the Wild Wind" - it's really not about anything at all!" The promo video was directed by Midge Ure and Chris Cross. It is the only singl ...

Lament (Ultravox Album)
''Lament'' is the seventh studio album by British new wave band Ultravox, released on 6 April 1984 by Chrysalis Records. It also reached number 25 in Germany and number 115 in the United States. Background Ultravox were producing ''Lament'' themselves, a logical step considering the experience that they had gained working with two very different producers, Conny Plank and George Martin. Ure and Currie had at this time built their own home studios. Ures Musicfest Studio located in Chiswick and Curries Hot Food Studio in his basement in Notting Hill Gate. Dancing With Tears In My Eyes
"Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" is the second single from ''Lament'', Ultravox's seventh studio album, released in May 1984. The single effectively put Ultravox back on the map, peaking at no. 3 in the UK Singles Chart, and reaching the top 10 in several European countries. The song also entered the Australian and Canadian Top 75 but failed to chart in the US. The 7" single was released in three versions: with a standard picture sleeve, with a gate-fold booklet sleeve, and with a gate-fold booklet sleeve and a clear vinyl disc.
