U-Vox
''U-Vox'' is the eighth studio album by British new wave band Ultravox, released on 9 October 1986 by Chrysalis Records. It was the band's fifth album during the Midge Ure era, and the final one featuring the band's 1979 lineup, with the exception of Warren Cann, for nearly 26 years. The Ure-era lineup would eventually reform in 2008. It was also the last Ultravox album to reach the top 10 of the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number nine. Background Despite reaching the UK top 10, the album was not as successful as the previous Ultravox albums from the 1980s and contained no top-20 singles (with "Same Old Story" and "All Fall Down" reaching numbers 31 and 30, respectively). In addition, drummer Warren Cann was unceremoniously dumped by the band, due to "musical differences", before recording the album. The drums on the album were played by Mark Brzezicki from Big Country. Billy Currie shared in a 1989 interview “We had some problems with the rhythm section, and we wound up ki ...

Ultravox (band)
Ultravox (earlier styled as Ultravox!) were a British new wave band, formed in London in April 1974 as Tiger Lily. Between 1980 and 1986, they scored seven Top Ten albums and seventeen Top 40 singles in the UK, the most successful of which was their 1981 hit "Vienna". From 1974 until 1979, singer John Foxx was frontman and the main driving force behind Ultravox. Foxx left the band in March 1979 to embark on a solo career and, following his departure, Midge Ure officially took over as lead singer, guitarist and frontman on 1st November 1979 (despite writing and rehearsing with the band from April of that year) after he and keyboardist Billy Currie worked in the studio project Visage. Ure revitalised the band and steered it to commercial chart success lasting until 1987, at which time the group disbanded. A new line-up, led by Currie, was formed in 1992, but achieved limited success, with two albums failing to chart and one solitary single reaching 90 in the UK Singles Chart. T ...

Same Old Story (song)
"Same Old Story" is the first single from Ultravox's album ''U-Vox''. The single was released 26 September 1986. Background Now as a trio, without original drummer Warren Cann, the single took Ultravox in a new musical direction. "Same Old Story" featured jazzy brass by Beggar and Co, and female vocals in the chorus by Carol Kenyon. It was clear that the 1986 version of Ultravox was now a very different entity. Mark Brzezicki was hired in and played drums on the album. In the music video of "Same Old Story" Pat Ahern played drums, and he also toured with the band on the U-Vox European Tour. The B-side was the instrumental track "3", which featured rhythms, synthesizers and Billy Currie, Billy Curries recognizable piano. All Fall Down (Ultravox Song)
"All Fall Down" is the second single from Ultravox's 1986 album ''U-Vox'', released on 19 November 1986. The song's lyrics carry a strong anti-war sentiment. The Chieftains also guest-performed on All Fall Down. Background Ure said in 1986: 'Although we said it before, the main difference is that we´ve no barriers whatsoever, we let its song and its arrangement dictate what that song should sound like. So a song like "All Fall Down" was like you´d imagine a Jacques Brel Celtic protest song to sound, it has a very strong celtic folk feel, with acoustic guitars and instruments. So we used Chieftains on it, went over to Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin to record them. Although at the time the idea sounded really bizarre, the combination of us and them, a band who supposedly uses technology to its utmost and this band who uses no technology at all, that combination works really well.' Ure said in 2012: 'The album "U-VOX" is a mess and displays a band falling apart, but in "All Fal ...

It was the last Ultravox release during their most popular 1980's incarnation with Midge Ure (until 2012). The song was written as a tribute to the Live Aid event and the orchestra was arranged and conducted by George Martin.
