Daniel Wallace (politician)
Daniel Wallace (May 9, 1801 – May 13, 1859) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from South Carolina. Born near Laurens, South Carolina, he moved to Union County in 1833. He was a major general of the State militia. He studied law and engaged in agricultural pursuits. After being admitted to the bar, the practiced law in Union and Jonesville, Union County, South Carolina. He was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives, State house of representatives in 1846 and served until 1847. Wallace was elected as a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat to the Thirtieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James A. Black. He was reelected to the Thirty-first and Thirty-second Congresses and served from June 12, 1848, to March 3, 1853. After leaving Congress, he resumed his agricultural pursuits. He died in Jonesville, South Carolina, May 13, 1859 and was interred in Old Presbyterian Cemetery, Union, South Carolina. Hi ... ''Daniel'' is an anonymous Old English poem based loosely on the Biblical Book of Daniel, found in the Junius Manuscript. The author and the date of ''Daniel'' are unknown. Critics have argued that Cædmon is the author of the poem, but this theory has been since disproved. ''Daniel'', as it is preserved, is 764 lines long. There have been numerous arguments that there was originally more to this poem than survives today. The majority of scholars, however, dismiss these arguments with the evidence that the text finishes at the bottom of a page, and that there is a simple point, which translators assume indicates the end of a complete sentence. Dan Wallace (born 14 June 1942) is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician who served for almost twenty five years as Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork North-Central constituency. A former Sacristan in Farranree Church and subsequent customs clerk with the Ford Motor Company in Cork, Wallace was an unsuccessful candidate at the 1981 and February 1982 general elections. He was first elected to the 24th Dáil at the November 1982 general election, having topped the poll, and was re-elected to Dáil Éireann in every subsequent general election until he retired at that 2007 general election. Daniel Wallace (born 14 April 1993) is a retired Scottish swimmer who has represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and FINA world championships, and Scotland in the Commonwealth Games. The 2014 Commonwealth Games champion at 400 metre individual medley, he was part of the Great Britain 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay team that won gold at the 2015 FINA World Aquatics Championships, and silver at the same event at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
