Dan Lane
Daniel Lane (1861 - 3 June 1940) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler who played as a forward for the Cork GAA, Cork senior team. Born in Coachford, County Cork, Lane first played competitive hurling in his youth, prior to the establishment of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-nine when his club team represented Cork. In his sole season with Cork, Lane won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal and one Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster medal. He was Cork's first ever winning Munster and All-Ireland winning captain. At club level Lane was a one-time Cork Senior Hurling Championship, championship medallist with Aghabullogue GAA, Aghabulloge. Aghabullogue GAA
Aghabullogue GAA are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Cork, Ireland. They are affiliated to the Cork County Board and play in the mid-Cork (Muskerry) division of Cork GAA. Aghabullogue cater for both hurling and Gaelic football. History Aghabullogue have a long tradition of hurling. In 1890, they won the Cork Senior Hurling Championship. By the rules of the GAA at that time, this victory allowed Aghabullogue to go on and represent Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. They later collected a Munster title following a victory over Kerry. There was controversy in the subsequent All-Ireland final when an Aghabullogue men left the field after one of the players had his toe broken by a Wexford man's hurley. The 1890 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the fourth staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 3 August 1890 and ended on 16 November 1890. Dublin were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial series. Cork won the title, after successfully launching an objection having originally been beaten by Wexford in the final. Teams A total of eleven teams contested the championship, one more than the previous year. The Leinster championship was contested by five teams. Kildare made a return to the championship after a one-year absence, however, they failed to field a team and gave a walkover to their opponents. All six counties entered a team in the Munster championship, however, a number of walkovers meant that only two games were played. Aghabullogue Hurlers
Aghabullogue or Aghabulloge () is a village and parish in the barony of Muskerry East in northwest County Cork, Ireland. It lies around west of Cork City, south of the Boggeragh Mountains and north of the River Lee. The parish of Aghabullogue includes the villages of Aghabullogue, Coachford and Rylane in County Cork. The civil parish consists of 31 townlands. It has a public house and shop, a national school, community hall and a Roman Catholic church. Saint Olan (or Olann) is the patron saint of the parish. Nicholas O'Shea
Nicholas O'Shea (25 April 1864 – 1912) was an Irish people, Irish hurling, hurler who played as midfielder for the Dublin GAA, Dublin senior team. O'Shea joined the team during the ill-fated All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1888, 1888 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1890, 1890 championship. This is the list of All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship winning captains for the hurling sports competition in Ireland. Each team has one captain. In many counties the captain is chosen by the club that won the Senior County Hurling Championship in the previous year. John Mahony
John Mahony (1 January 1864 – 31 December 1943) was an Republic of Ireland, Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at with his local club Ballyduff GAA Club, Ballyduff and with the Kerry GAA, Kerry senior inter-county team in the 1890s. Mahony captained Kerry to their only All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland hurling title in 1891. Biography John Mahony was born in Kilmore, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ballyduff, County Kerry in 1864. The son of John and Bridget (née Doran), he grew up in an area that was and still is famous for hurling. Like many of his contemporaries Mahony earned his living from fishing and from thatching roofs. He later gained a reputation as a fine sportsman and as an outspoken individual.
