Dan Giancola
Dan Giancola Jr. (born January 28, 1970 in Thorold, Ontario) is a former placekicker in the Canadian Football League. Professional career Giancola made his CFL debut with the Toronto Argonauts during the 1999 CFL season as a 29-year-old rookie. In his rookie season, Giancola kicked 48 field goals while also going 28 for 28 on extra point converts and recording 9 singles. The 181 points he accumulated that season were 5 points shy of the CFL record for most points scored by a first year player, set by Ray Macoritti with the Edmonton Eskimos in 1990. In 2000, Giancola tried out with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League but was cut during training camp. Soon after, the Argonauts, who still owned his CFL rights, traded him to the BC Lions in exchange for defensive back Marcello Simmons and defensive tackle Tom Hipsz. Thorold
Thorold is a city in Ontario, Canada, located on the Niagara Escarpment. It is also the seat of the Regional Municipality of Niagara. The Welland Canal passes through the city, featuring lock 7 and the Twin Flight Locks. History The first survey of Thorold, or Township 9 as it was known then, occurred in 1788. The earliest communities in what is now Thorold emerged at Beaverdams, DeCew Falls and St. Johns but, after the opening of the First Welland Canal in 1829, they were superseded by the new canal villages of Thorold, Allanburg and Port Robinson. In 1846, the community had a population of about 1,000 and there were three churches or chapels and a post office. Various types of tradesmen worked here. Marcello Simmons
Marcello Muhammad Simmons (born August 8, 1971) is a former professional gridiron football defensive back and the former special teams coordinator for the BC Lions. He played for two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cincinnati Bengals before playing for seven seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Toronto Argonauts, Edmonton Eskimos, and BC Lions. He is a three-time Grey Cup champion having won twice as a player in 1996 and 1997 and once as a coach in 2004. He played college football for the SMU Mustangs. Noel Prefontaine
Noel Michael Prefontaine (born December 23, 1973) is a former professional Canadian football punter and placekicker in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Early years Prefontaine was born to a French Canadian father and a Vietnamese mother at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. His father was born and raised in Verdun, Quebec and Noel lived with his grandmother in Verdun as a child, which enables him to be considered a non-import for CFL purposes. He returned to the United States and attended El Camino High School in San Diego County, California. 2003 CFL Season
The 2003 CFL season is considered to be the 50th season in modern-day Canadian football, although it is officially the 46th Canadian Football League season. The pre-season began on May 30, 2003 and the regular season started on June 17, 2003. Taylor Field in Regina, Saskatchewan hosted the 91st Grey Cup on November 16, with the Edmonton Eskimos defeating the Montreal Alouettes 34–22. CFL News in 2003 The Canadian Football League signed a new five-year television deal with TSN and the CBC on February 27. Through the new agreement, TSN and CBC will be broadcasting 77 games, which is the most in CFL history.
