Damongo
Damongo is a town and the capital of West Gonja Municipal, a municipal in the Savannah Region of northern Ghana. On 12 February 2019, Damongo was declared the capital of the newly created Savannah Region; With the coming into force of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 105, which was signed into force by the President of the Republic of Ghana and presented to the Yagbonwura in Jubilee House Accra. Damongo hosts the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom; the Yagbonwura. It is also the capital (biggest town) in the Damongo Constituency whose current MP is Hon. Samuel Abu jinapor (Minister of Lands and Natural Resources) Damongo boast of key tourist attractions like the Mole National Park where visitors are assured of seeing a myriad of animals chief among which being elephants, the Larabanga Mosque and Mystic Stone in Larabanga with all the ancient stories surrounding their onset. Savannah Region, Ghana
The Savannah Region is one of the newest regions of Ghana and yet the largest region in the country. The creation of the Region follows presentation of a petition by the Gonja Traditional Council, led by the Yagbonwura Tumtumba Boresa Jakpa I. Upon receiving favourable responses from all stakeholders in the Northern Region (the region it was broken off from), the Brobbey Commission (the Commission tasked with the creation of the new regions), a referendum was conducted on the 27th December 2018. The result was a resounding yes of 99.7%. The President of the Republic of Ghana signed and presented the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 115 to the Yagbonwura in the Jubilee House, Accra on 12 February 2019. The launch was well attended by sons and daughters of Gonjaland including all current and past Mps, MDCEs and all appointees with Gonjaland descent. Samuel Abu Jinapor
Samuel Abu Jinapor , (born 1983) is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency. In 2017, President Akufo-Addo appointed him as Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations at the Office of the President, at a very youthful age of 33, the youngest in the history of Ghana to occupy such a position. He is currently the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. Early life and education Jinapor was born in 1983 to Abudulai Jinapor, a former police officer and Chief of Buipe in the Savannah Region of Ghana. West Gonja Municipal District
West Gonja Municipal Assembly is one of the seven districts in Savannah Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly on 23 December 1988 when it was known as West Gonja District, until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor in August 2004 to create Central Gonja District; thus the remaining part was retained as West Gonja District. However, on 6 February 2012, the northern part of the district was later split off to create North Gonja District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Gonja District. Later, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 27 January 2020 to become West Gonja Municipal District. Larabanga Mosque
The Larabanga Mosque () is a mosque built in the Sudanese architectural style in the village of Larabanga, Ghana. It is the oldest mosque in the country and one of the oldest in West Africa, and has been referred to as the "Mecca of West Africa". It has undergone restoration several times since it was founded in 1421. The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has contributed substantially to its restoration, and lists it as one of the 100 Most Endangered Sites. The restoration works have revived the knowledge of adobe maintenance. The mosque has an old Quran, believed by the locals to have been given as a gift from heaven in 1650 to Yidan Barimah Bramah, the Imam at the time, as a result of his prayers. Michael Abu Sakara Foster is a Ghanaian agronomist and politician. He was the candidate of the Convention People's Party for the Ghanaian presidential election in December 2012. Dr. Sakara in 2008 was the running mate to Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom when he was flag-bearer of the Convention People's Party (CPP) but was elected as flag-bearer when Nduom left the CPP to found his own party, The Progressive People's Party(PPP). Benjamin Kunbuor
Benjamin Bewa-Nyog Kumbuor was the Ghanaian Minister for Defence of the Ghanaian Ministry of Defence and a Ghanaian politician. He was the Member of Parliament for the Nandom constituency.
