Damon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 552 at the 2010 census. The town is located about south of Rosenberg on Texas State Highway 36. Damon sits partly atop a salt dome which was exploited for petroleum, sulphur, and limestone. Geography Damon is located in northwestern Brazoria County at (29.289519, -95.737038). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all land. Damon is from the San Bernard River and from the Brazos River. Anhydrite
Anhydrite, or anhydrous calcium sulfate, is a mineral with the chemical formula CaSO4. It is in the orthorhombic crystal system, with three directions of perfect cleavage parallel to the three planes of symmetry. It is not isomorphous with the orthorhombic barium ( baryte) and strontium ( celestine) sulfates, as might be expected from the chemical formulas. Distinctly developed crystals are somewhat rare, the mineral usually presenting the form of cleavage masses. The Mohs hardness is 3.5, and the specific gravity is 2.9. Damon Independent School District is a public school district based in Damon, Texas (USA). History The date of establishment of the first school, located near an oil field, was not recorded; the 1900 Galveston hurricane destroyed this school.
