Damien Ricketson
Damien Ricketson (born 9 May 1973) is an Australian composer of contemporary classical music. He is best known for his innovative compositional practice and in his capacity as the co-founder and co-artistic director of Ensemble Offspring. He is currently a lecturer and program leader in composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, of which he is also an alumnus. Biography Born in Wollongong, Ricketson studied composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from 1991 to 1995, after which he continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague from 1996 to 1998 under Louis Andriessen.Campbell, Rachel. Wollongong
Wollongong ( ), colloquially referred to as The Gong, is a city located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The name is believed to originate from the Dharawal language, meaning either 'five islands/clouds', 'ground near water' or 'sound of the sea'. George Crumb
George Henry Crumb Jr. (24 October 1929 – 6 February 2022) was an American composer of avant-garde contemporary classical music. Early in his life he rejected the widespread modernist usage of serialism, developing a highly personal musical language which "range in mood from peaceful to nightmarish". Crumb's compositions are known for pushing the limits of technical prowess by way of frequent use of extended techniques. The unusual timbres he employs evoke a surrealist atmosphere which portray emotions of considerable intensity with vast and sometimes haunting soundscapes. His few large-scale works include '' Echoes of Time and the River'' (1967), which won the 1968 Pulitzer Prize for Music, and ''Star-Child'' (1977), which won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition; however, his output consists of mostly music for chamber ensembles or solo instrumentalists. Carriageworks
Carriageworks is a multi-arts urban cultural precinct located at the former Eveleigh Railway Workshops in Redfern, Sydney, Australia. Carriageworks showcases contemporary art and performing arts, as well as being used for filming, festivals, fairs and commercial exhibitions. The largest such venue in Australia, it is a cultural facility of the NSW Government, and receives support from Create NSW and the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts. Adena Jacobs
Adena Jacobs (born June 1982) is an Australian theatre director. She has worked in Australian independent theatre with her company, Fraught Outfit, of which she is artistic director, and has also directed for various mainstage companies. She was "Female Director-in-Residence" at Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne in 2012, and in 2014–15 was Resident Director at Belvoir, Sydney. Jacobs adapted the 1966 film ''Persona'' for theatrical performances at Theatre Works in Melbourne in 2012. Chris Wallace-Crabbe
Christopher Keith Wallace-Crabbe (born 6 May 1934) is an Australian poet and emeritus professor in the Australian Centre, University of Melbourne. Life and career Wallace-Crabbe was born in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. His father was Kenneth Eyre Inverell Wallace-Crabbe, painter, printmaker, journalist and publisher, pilot in the RAF and ending World War II as Group Captain, and his mother Phyllis Vera May Cox Passmore was a pianist, and his brother Robin Wallace-Crabbe became an artist. Bundanon
Bundanon is a unique national arts organisation situated near Nowra, City of Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia. It was the home of the painter Arthur Boyd. Zubin Kanga
Zubin Kanga (born 1982) is an Australian-born pianist, composer, and musicologist based in London. He specialises in contemporary and experimental music. Early life and education Kanga was born in Sydney and attended Sydney Grammar School until 2000. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2006 before moving to London in 2007, where he is still resident. Kanga studied under Rolf Hind and attended the Royal Academy of Music, receiving an MMus in 2009 and a PhD in 2014. Career Kanga has been an active chamber musician since joining Australian contemporary music group Ensemble Offspring in 2005 at the age of 22, of which he remains a member. Speak Percussion
Speak Percussion are an Australian percussion ensemble led by artistic director Eugene Ughetti. The original five members, including Ughetti, came together in 1999, to join a recital by Minako Okamoto while they were undergraduate students at Victorian College of the Arts. The following year, they formed Speak Percussion and made their debut at Musica Viva's ''Ménage'' music nights at Chapel off Chapel. Later that year the line-up of Okamoto, Ughetti, Justin Marshall and Rory McDougall performed Fritz Hauser's ''Double Exposition''. In 2002, the group split up due to financial and creative strain, with Ughetti the only one wishing to continue. Since then they have operated as a collective, with an ever-changing lineup.
