Damien Byrne (Gaelic Footballer)
Damien Byrne (born 16 June 1978) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer who played as a right corner-back for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Fethard, County Tipperary, Byrne first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He joined the senior panel during the 1998 championship. Byrne later became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one Tommy Murphy Cup medal. At club level Byrne is a two-time championship medallist with Fethard GAA. He retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 2005 championship. Fethard GAA
Fethard GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club located in the medieval town of Fethard, County Tipperary in Ireland. The club is affiliated to the South Division of Tipperary GAA. They have been Tipperary Senior Football champions on a record twenty one occasions. History The Tipperary county footballers that were attacked at Croke Park on Bloody Sunday of 1920 wore the Grangemockler colours. At that time the county wore the colours of its county champions, not having an official jersey. Fethard were the then county champions but, instead of Fethard's blue and white, Grangemockler's white and green was worn instead. The county footballers wore a white and green commemorative jersey for the 2020 Munster Senior Football Championship final - a replica of the jersey colours worn in 1920. Liam Cronin (born 1968) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer who played for the Tipperary senior team. Born in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Cronin first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team before later joining the junior side. He joined the senior panel during the 1992 championship. Cronin subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen. At club level Cronin is a five-time championship medallist with Moyle Rovers. Cronin retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 2004 championship. In retirement from playing Cromin became involved in team management and coaching. He served as coach of the Tipperary minor team on one occasion. Born in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ryan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He joined the senior panel during the 1987 championship. Ryan subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen. Munster Junior Football Championship
The Munster Junior Football Championship is a gaelic football tournament between the six counties of Munster: Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Waterford. It is the third-tier county teams playing off in a single-elimination tournament with 2 quarter finals instead of 4 (as of 2014). The cup was first given to the winners in 1957. Kerry have won the most titles, 42 in all. The winner will play against the champions of the other provinces in the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship. All-Ireland Junior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Football Championship is a GAA competition involving four Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams. Prior to a change in competition structure in 2021, the competition was previously for all Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams in Ireland. In this previous format, the definition of what constituted a Junior player differed from county to county. In some, the junior team was the second team after the senior team. This meant that any players who had not played with the senior team could play with the junior team. In others, such as Cork and Kerry, players could only be chosen from clubs that played in junior or intermediate grades. These counties could not choose players from senior clubs, even if they were not on the senior county team. When a team won this championship, it had to pick a new team for the following year. 2005 Tommy Murphy Cup
The 2005 Tommy Murphy Cup was the 2nd staging of the Tommy Murphy Cup, the Gaelic Athletic Association's secondary inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The draw for the preliminary round fixtures took place on 9 July 2005. The championship began on 16 July 2005 and ended on 4 September 2005. Clare were the defending champions but they did not enter the championship. On 4 September 2005, Tipperary won the championship following a 3-10 to 0-15 defeat of Wexford in the final. This was their first Tommy Murphy Cup title. Wexford's Mattie Forde was the championship's top scorer with 2-14.
