Dalsfjord, Møre Og Romsdal
Dalsfjord is a former municipality in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The former municipality existed from 1924 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality included the area around the Dalsfjorden between Vanylven Municipality in the west and almost all the way to the Kilsfjorden in the east. The area is now a part of Volda Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Dravlaus. Other villages in the area included Ulvestadbygda (Ulvestad, Lauvstad, and Sætre), Åmelfot, Steinsvik, and Dalsbygda. History Originally, Dalsfjord was a part of Volda Municipality (see formannskapsdistrikt law), the parish of Dalsfjord was established as a separate municipality on 1 July 1924. Initially, Dalsfjord had a population of 960. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. Dalsfjord Church
Dalsfjord Church ( no, Dalsfjord kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the municipality of Volda in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Dravlaus, on the western shore of the Dalsfjorden. It is the church for the Dalsfjord parish which is part of the Søre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1910 using plans drawn up by the architect Ole Havnæs. The church seats about 400 people. The building was consecrated by the Bishop Johan Willoch Erichsen. History Dalsfjord did not have a church during the Middle Ages so the people of the Dalsfjord area used the main Volda Church that was located about away, on the other side of the fjord. It is said, however, that a wooden cross had been erected on the site during the Middle Ages, and that in Catholic times (pre-Reformation) this site was a gathering place for people. Dalsfjorden (Sunnfjord)
Dalsfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the municipalities of Askvoll, Fjaler, and Sunnfjord. It is one of the two main fjords that comprise the Sunnfjord region of the county. The fjord is about long and it is generally about wide. The Dalsfjorden is a narrow fjord that cuts into roughly eastwards from the village of Vilnes on the island of Atløyna in Askvoll municipality. The outer part of the fjord is also known as the Vilnesfjorden. The mouth of the fjord by Vilnes has a width of approximately , but at the village of Holmedal the fjord narrows quite a bit.
