Dale Reid
Dale Reid (20 March 1959 – 8 November 2023) was a Scottish professional golfer. She was one of the most successful players in the history of the Ladies European Tour, with 21 tournament victories. She topped the Order of Merit in 1984 and 1987 and was made a life member of the tour after collecting her 20th title at the 1991 Ford Classic. She played for Europe in the first four Solheim Cups (1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996) and was Europe's non-playing captain in 2000 and 2002. Amateur career At the age of 15, Reid reached the final of the Scottish Girls Championship where she lost 3&1 to Suzanne Cadden. She also made her first appearance in the Girls Home Internationals. She also played in the Girl's Home Internationals in 1975, 1976 and 1977 and in the Women's Home Internationals in 1978 and 1979. Ladybank
Ladybank () is a village and former burgh of Fife, Scotland. It is about north of Edinburgh, southwest of Cupar, close to the River Eden. Its 2006 population was estimated at 1,582. History Before the 18th century, this area was mostly marshland. In 1247 Roger de Quincy, 2nd Earl of Winchester granted the monks of Lindores Abbey the right to cut peat from a peat-moss called Monegre, to which monks gave the name ''Our Lady's Bog'' (the southwestern part of the village is still called ''Monkstown''). Over time this name was shortened to ''Ladybog''. When the Edinburgh and Northern Railway was constructed in the 1840s, a junction was built here with lines heading towards Perth and Dundee. An engine depot (of which only the disused locomotive shed survives) and a railway station were constructed at the junction. Girls Home Internationals
The Girls Home Internationals was an amateur team golf championship for girls between the four Home Nations. Ireland was represented by the whole island of Ireland.The event was organised by The R&A. The inaugural event was held in 1969 and the venue cycled between the four nations. The winning team received the Stroyan Cup. Originally it was played immediately before, and at the same venue, as the Girls Amateur Championship. However it was later held as a separate event. In 2021 the match was replaced by a combined Girls and Boys Home Internationals. A match between Scotland and England girls had been played since 1935 while Ireland and Wales had also played earlier matches. Format In its final format, the championship was played over three days with the four teams competing against each other in individual matches. Cathy Panton
Catherine Rita Panton-Lewis (born 14 June 1955) is a Scottish professional golfer who was a founding member of the Ladies European Tour and won its first Order of Merit. Her father was John Panton, MBE, a professional golfer who played on three Ryder Cup teams. Panton was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland. As an amateur, she won the British Ladies Amateur in 1976, winning 1-up over Alison Sheard. Later that year, she was a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Espirito Santo Trophy team. She was captain of the University of Edinburgh golf team in 1976 and 1977, and was Scottish Universities Champion in 1977. She was named Scottish Sportswoman of the Year in 1976. The Carlsberg European Ladies' Championship was a series of women's professional golf tournaments on the Ladies European Tour (LET) held throughout England, Scotland and Wales between 1979 and 1981. In 1978 Carlsberg became the main sponsor of the newly formed Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), supporting 12 tournaments in 1979, 10 in 1980 and 4 in 1981. The winner's share per tournament was £200, £250 and £1,500 respectively for the three seasons. 1980 Ladies European Tour
The 1980 Ladies European Tour was the second season of golf tournaments organised by the Women's Professional Golfers' Association (WPGA), which later became the Ladies European Tour (LET). The tour was principally sponsored by Carlsberg, who organised ten 36-hole tournaments counting towards their own Order of Merit. There were eleven other tournaments on the schedule including the Women's British Open, organised by the Ladies' Golf Union. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service.
