Dale Ferguson (designer)
Dale Ferguson is an Australian theatrical scenic and costume designer who was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Costume Design, the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design, and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design for the 2009 Broadway revival of ''Exit the King''. Career Ferguson graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney in 1989. The following year he became resident designer for the Queensland Theatre Company, a post he held until 1994, after which he joined the Melbourne Theatre Company, remaining with them until 1998. ''And a Nightingale Sang'' is a play by British playwright C.P. Taylor (1977) and commissioned by Newcastle upon Tyne's Live Theatre Company. The play was made into a TV program in 1989 by Jack Rosenthal for Tyne Tees Television. Described as a bitter-sweet comedy, the play is set in Newcastle during World War II and portrays Helen Stott and her family as it copes on the home front with life during the war. The play's name is derived from a popular war-time song sung by Vera Lynn called "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (song), A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square". Welsh National Opera (WNO) ( cy, Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru) is an opera company based in Cardiff, Wales; it gave its first performances in 1946. It began as a mainly amateur body and transformed into an all-professional ensemble by 1973. (''Ariadne on Naxos''), Op. 60, is a 1912 opera by Richard Strauss with a German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The opera's unusual combination of elements of low commedia dell'arte with those of high opera seria points up one of the work's principal themes: the competition between high and low art for the public's attention. First version (1912) The opera was originally conceived as a 30-minute divertissement to be performed at the end of Hofmannsthal's adaptation of Molière's play ''Le Bourgeois gentilhomme.'' ''Amy's View'' is a play written by British playwright David Hare. It premiered in London at the Royal National Theatre's Lyttelton Theatre on 13 June 1997, directed by Richard Eyre and starring Judi Dench, Ronald Pickup and Samantha Bond in the title role. It transferred to the Aldwych Theatre in the West End from January to April 1998, then moved to Broadway on 15 April 1999 for a limited run at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, again directed by Eyre.
