Dakota Dunes Casino
Dakota Dunes Resort & Casino is a First Nations casino situated on Whitecap Dakota First Nation land south of Saskatoon along Saskatchewan Highway 219. The 84,000 sq. ft facility opened in 2007, and includes a casino, restaurant, multi-purpose rooms, and an 18-hole golf course. In September 2018, construction began on a new $38 million, 155-room hotel on the resort site, which opened as the Dakota Dunes Resort in October 2020. Teepee of Light The ''Teepee of Light'' consists of seven 4000-watt spot lights that at night project into the night sky to form a light effect in the shape of a teepee. Dakota Dunes Golf Links The 18 hole golf course opened to the public on April 30, 2004. The golf course was designed by Graham Cooke. Whitecap Dakota First Nation ( dak, Wápaha Ská Dakhóta Oyáte) is a Dakota First Nations band government whose reserve is located south of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Governing the Whitecap Indian Reserve No. 94, historically referred to as the ''Moose Woods Sioux Reserve'', it is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Dundurn No. 314 and located along Highway 219 between the South Saskatchewan River and CFAD Dundurn. Chief ''Wapahaska'' (White Cap) and his band eventually settled along the South Saskatchewan River, and received a reserve in June 1881 despite not having signed a treaty. The First Nation has a registered population of 656 people as of March 2017; approximately 322 members of the First Nation live on-reserve and approximately 334 live off-reserve. Highway 219 is a secondary highway in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, running from the Gardiner Dam development and the north end of Lake Diefenbaker north to Saskatoon. Route description Highway 219 starts at Highway 44 near Cutbank and travels north, passing through the hamlet of Glenside, intersecting Highway 15 east of the town of Outlook, before passing through Whitecap Dakota First Nation. The Saskatchewan Open was a golf tournament on PGA Tour Canada that was held in Saskatchewan, Canada. Founded in 1919, the Saskatchewan Open was held annually until 1981, only missing from the calendar in 1924 when the Western Canada tournament was held in Saskatchewan and for four years during the Second World War. Following the withdrawal of major sponsors, Molson Brewery, it was not held in 1982. Still lacking sponsors, it returned in 1983 and 1984 but as a relatively minor event before entering an extended hiatus. Having not been played from 1985 to 2007, it was revived in 2008.
