Daiga Mieriņa
Daiga Mieriņa (née Cekule; born 3 March 1969) is a Latvian politician who has been serving as the Speaker of the Saeima since 20 September 2023. Life Daiga Mieriņa studied at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies. From 2009 until 2015 and from 2016 until 2021, she was Council chairperson of Carnikava Municipality. During the 2022 parliamentary election, she was elected as a member of the Latvian parliament for its 14th term and she represents the Latvian Farmers' Union. She became chair of the committee for local government and state administration. Speaker Of The Saeima
The Speaker of the Saeima ( lv, Saeimas priekšsēdētājs; literal translation, lit. "Chairperson of the Saeima") is the speaker (politics), presiding officer of the Parliament of Latvia, the Saeima. If the President of Latvia resigns from office, dies or is removed from office before their term has ended, the Speaker of the Saeima shall assume the duties of the President until the Saeima has elected a new President. Similarly, the Speaker of the Saeima shall assume the duties of the President if the latter is away from Latvia or for any other reason unable to fulfil the duties of office. Carnikava Municipality
Carnikava Municipality ( lv, Carnikavas novads) is a former municipality in Vidzeme, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2006 by reorganization of Carnikava Parish of the Riga District, with the administrative centre being Carnikava. The population in 2009 was 6,261 people. The parish itself was created in 1992 after splitting from Ādaži Parish. After the municipal reform of 2009, the districts were abolished and the Municipality became a national administrative unit. On 1 July 2021, Carnikava Municipality ceased to exist and its territory was merged into Ādaži Municipality as Carnikava Parish. 2022 Latvian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Latvia on 1 October 2022, following the end of the term of the 13th Saeima elected in 2018. Electoral system The 100 members of the Saeima are elected by open list, proportional representation from five multi-member constituencies ranging in size from 12 to 36 seats and based on the regions of Latvia, with overseas votes included in the Riga constituency. Seats are allocated using the Sainte-Laguë method with a national electoral threshold of 5%. Voters may cast "specific votes" for candidates on the list that they have voted for. This involves drawing a plus sign (+) next to the candidate's names to indicate preference (positive votes), or by crossing out names to indicate dissaproval (negative votes). The number of votes for each candidate is the number of votes cast for the list, plus their number of positive votes, minus their number of negative votes. The Saeima () is the parliament of the Latvia, Republic of Latvia. It is a unicameral parliament consisting of 100 members who are elected by proportional representation, with seats allocated to political parties which gain at least 5% of the popular vote. The People's Party ( lv, Tautas partija, TP) was a conservative political party in Latvia. The People's Party was the leader of three governments and a member of another four. History Tautas partija was founded in 1998 by Andris Šķēle, a businessman and former prime minister, who was the chairman of the party until 2002.
