Dade City (Amtrak Station)
Dade City station is a railroad station and historic site located in Dade City, Florida, United States. The station is located on CSX's S-Line, which runs along the east side of the building. On July 15, 1994, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. History Built in 1912 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (now CSX Transportation), it is located on the U.S. 98/301 Bypass, across the street from East Meridian Avenue ( SR 52). Until 1957 it served as a station on their High Springs—Lakeland Line from Trilby to Tampa, serving the ACL's ''Southland'' en route to Tampa. In 1971, most passenger service in the United States was transferred to Amtrak, but Dade City still remained without passenger service. Dade City, Florida
Dade City is a city in and the county seat of Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is located in the Tampa Bay Area. The population was 6,437 at the 2010 census. Dade City is popular with tourists for its antique stores, restaurants, and historic architecture, including the Pasco County Courthouse, Hugh Embry Library, and Edwinola. The annual Kumquat Festival is hosted downtown. The surrounding area produces the tart kumquat, a citrus fruit eaten whole, as a commodity crop. Southland (train)
The ''Southland'' was a night train between Chicago, Illinois (at Union Station) and different points in western and eastern Florida from 1915 to 1957. In early years it was called the ''New Southland.'' It was distinctive among Midwest to Florida trains as its western branch was the only all-season mid-20th-century long-distance train passing from Georgia to Florida bypassing the usual passenger train hub of Jacksonville Union Station. The main operator was the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and pooling partners were the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and to lesser extent, the Wabash Railroad and the Florida East Coast Railway. For southeast bound -but not northwest bound- trips to Norfolk, Virginia, some coaches in 1946 diverged at Cincinnati along a Norfolk and Western Railway route. Lakeland (Amtrak Station)
Lakeland station is a train station in Lakeland, Florida, that is served by Amtrak, the national passenger rail system of the United States. It is served by the ''Silver Star'' train, which runs daily between New York City and Miami. The station is located on the northern shore of Lake Mirror. Lakeland is unique among all Amtrak stations in that it has two separate Amtrak station codes; one for passengers traveling to and from points north and the other for passengers traveling to and from points south. Since 2004, when the ''Silver Star'' initially arrives in Lakeland from either New York or Miami, it heads west to Tampa, then returns to Lakeland over the same route. Jacksonville station is an Amtrak train station in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It serves the ''Silver Meteor'' and ''Silver Star'' trains as well as Amtrak Thruway buses to Lakeland. The ''Sunset Limited'' is an Amtrak passenger train that for most of its history has operated between New Orleans and Los Angeles, over the nation's second transcontinental route. However, up until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it operated between and Los Angeles, and 1993–96, continued on to Miami (via the ''Silver Meteor''s route). It is the oldest continuously operating named train in the United States, introduced in 1894 by the Southern Pacific Railroad, and acquired by Amtrak upon its formation in 1971. The ''Silver Meteor'' is a passenger train operated by Amtrak between New York City and Miami, Florida. Introduced in 1939 as the first diesel-powered streamliner between New York and Florida, it was the flagship train of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad and one of its flagship trains of its successor, the Seaboard Coast Line. It was handed to Amtrak when it took over intercity rail service in 1971.
