DODDS European Championships
DODDS European Championships are a series of sports competitions taking place in Europe and are organized by the DODDS (Department of Defense Dependents Schools) system. The term "Europeans" is a nickname that collectively refers to the three seasonal championships (autumn, winter and spring respectively) that take place every school year. Both DODDS and other international schools around Europe are invited to compete. History DODDS opened its first school on October 14, 1946. It is designed for military children who live overseas on military bases. There are 81 schools in the DODDS system in 9 different countries overseas. The majority of the schools are in Europe. Europeans bring together hundreds of students from these schools all over Europe. DODDS
The Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) are a network of schools, both primary and secondary, that serve the dependant, dependents of United States military and civilian United States Department of Defense (DoD) personnel in three areas of the world; Europe, Pacific, and Eastern United States and Caribbean areas. United States Contractor personnel supporting the Department of Defense overseas are eligible to send their dependents for a fee. The schools themselves are operated by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Track And Field
Track and field is a sport that includes athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running and racewalking. The foot racing events, which include sprints, middle- and long-distance events, racewalking, and hurdling, are won by the athlete who completes it in the least time. Bitburg Middle-High School
Bitburg Middle-High School (generally referred to as BMHS), originally opened in 1956, was part of the Kaiserslautern School District and had a student population of approximately 230 with a faculty of thirty. It was situated in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. In the 2013-14 school year, the Bitburg Middle School was integrated into the high school. Although Bitburg Middle-High School was located at the Bitburg Air Base housing complex, many of the students that attend this school live at the Spangdahlem Air Base or villages in the surrounding areas. Over the course of the next decade, a new middle/high school will be built at the Spangdahlem Air Base. Its campus lies in the Brussels commune of Watermael-Boitsfort. SHAPE American High School is a US Department of Defense Dependents high school (DoDDS) for grades 9-12 located at Casteau, a town north of the city of Mons in Belgium. SHAPE American High School provides education for the dependents of military personnel and civilian employees at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), a NATO military installation. It is located in Gricignano di Aversa, Campania, Italy. History Early days In the summer of 1951, a new NATO southern command was established in Naples, Italy called Headquarters Allied Forces, Southern Europe ( AFSOUTH). Stuttgart High School (SHS) is an English-language high school in southwest Germany, in Baden-Württemberg. Southwest of Stuttgart on Panzer Kaserne in Böblingen, it is operated by the United States' DODEA (formerly known as DoDDS). Wiesbaden High School (formerly General H. H. Arnold High School) is an American high school located in Wiesbaden, Germany, and is a part of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, the 9th largest United States School System.
