DC Rollergirls is a women's flat track roller derby league in Washington, D.C. DC Rollergirls is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History DC Rollergirls was founded in early 2006 by Ginger Park, Shannon Flowers and Katelyn Coram. After spending much of the first year recruiting and training, the league first held public games in 2007 at the Dulles SportsPlex. By 2010, attendance for home games at the DC Armory was averaging between 1300 and 1500 fans. In 2011, DC Rollergirls co-hosted the WFTDA Eastern Regional Tournament along with Baltimore league Charm City Rollergirls. Before the DC Rollergirls, the area was home to the Washington, D.C. Jets, which played banked track roller derby until 1978. The DC Rollergirls play most of their bouts at the DC Armory and Dulles SportsPlex; however, the league recently signed a lease on a warehouse located in Edmonston, Maryland. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. East Region (WFTDA)
The WFTDA's East Region was formed in 2006. In 2009, teams from the western part of the region were moved into the North Central and South Central Regions. In 2008, WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. Members of the WFTDA's Europe Region competed in the East Region, as did members in the eastern part of the Canada Region. WFTDA has now moved away from the Big 5 WFTDA Championships qualification tournament structure, last competed in 2012. The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. Tallahassee RollerGirls is a women's flat-track roller derby league based in Tallahassee, Florida. Founded in 2006, Tallahassee is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization The league was founded in 2006, and joined the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in 2009 as a South Central Region league. Florida State University student Adrianne Chaplin posted a flyer about roller derby and Melissa Smith responded, who organized the first meeting of 12 women in January 2006. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 (WFTDA Division 2) was the second-highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby from 2013 through 2017. Comprising different structures over that time, in early 2018 the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced it was replacing the Division 2 Playoffs with geographically-based Continental Cups, the structure and quantity of which is expected to adjust and possibly expand over time.
