DB Class 23
The steam locomotives of Class 23 were German passenger train locomotives developed in the 1950s for the Deutsche Bundesbahn. They had a 2-6-2 wheel arrangement and were equipped with Class 2'2' T 31 tenders. They were designed to replace the once ubiquitous Prussian P 8 engines that had been built between 1908 and 1924 and, in their day, were the most numerous post-war replacement class. Manufacture and Design From 1950, 105 examples of this newly designed class were manufactured for medium passenger train and light express train services. They had welded locomotive frames, boilers and tenders together with all the latest refinements of German practice. These included a superheated multiple-valve regulator and central lubrication of the least accessible parts of the running gear. Henschel & Sohn
Henschel & Son (german: Henschel und Sohn) was a German company, located in Kassel, best known during the 20th century as a maker of transportation equipment, including locomotives, trucks, buses and trolleybuses, and armoured fighting vehicles and weapons. Georg Christian Carl Henschel founded the factory in 1810 at Kassel. His son Carl Anton Henschel founded another factory in 1837. In 1848, the company began manufacturing locomotives. The factory became the largest locomotive manufacturer in Germany by the 20th century. Henschel built 10 articulated steam trucks, using Doble steam designs, for Deutsche Reichsbahn railways as delivery trucks. Several cars were built as well, one of which became Hermann Göring's staff car. The eurovapor is a European society of railway fans dedicated to the preservation of steam locomotives and historic railway vehicles. History ''eurovapor'' stands for the ''Europäische Vereinigung zur betriebsfähigen Erhaltung von Dampflokomotiven und historischem Eisenbahnmaterial which means 'European Society for Preservation of Working Steam Locomotives and Historic Railway Stock'. Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum
The Darmstadt-Kranichstein Railway Museum (''Eisenbahnmuseum Darmstadt-Kranichstein'') a railway museum in the German city of Darmstadt. It is also the largest railway museum in the state of Hesse. The former railway depot (''Bahnbetriebswerk'' or ''BW'') includes a locomotive shed, turntable, coal bunkers and other locomotive facilities. There is also an adjoining repair shop (''Ausbesserungswerk''), where major repairs can be carried out. The depot is located on the Rhine-Main line from Darmstadt to Aschaffenburg. German Steam Locomotive Museum
The German Steam Locomotive Museum (''Deutsches Dampflokomotiv-Museum'') or DDM is located at the foot of the famous ''Schiefe Ebene'' ramp on the Ludwig South-North Railway in Neuenmarkt, Upper Franconia. This region is in northern Bavaria, Germany. The DDM was founded in 1977. Facilities The museum is in the former locomotive shed (''Bahnbetriebswerk'') at Neuenmarkt- Wirsberg station. It comprises a 15-road roundhouse, water cranes, a turntable with an off-centre pivot, a coaling facility and a ''Ruge'' coal crane in a newly built 'old fashioned' working coal yard.
