D. A. Foreman
Archibald George Forman CBE (1910-1967) was a British naval officer who became the first Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy. Ghana Navy service Forman was born in Brentford on 20 June 1910. An acting sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy aged 17, he became a sub-lieutenant in 1931, and lieutenant in 1933. He became Lieutenant Commander at the start of 1941, at this time he commanded HMS Airdale and HMS Lookout (G32), was mentioned in dispatches in 1942, and became a Commander at the close of 1943, at this time he commanded HMS Garth (L20). In 1950 he was made Commodore. Retiring from active Navy service in July 1959, he was seconded to the newly created Ghana Navy. HMS Garth (L20)
HMS ''Garth'' was a Type I Hunt-class destroyer of the Royal Navy built by John Brown & Company on the River Clyde, and launched on 28 December 1939. She was adopted by the Civil Community of Wokingham, Berkshire, as part of the Warship Week campaign in 1942. Service history On commissioning in 1940 ''Garth'' completed work ups for service in Home waters, including the Northwestern approaches and the English Channel. She provided escort cover for the monitor during the evacuation of Dunkirk. In November 1940 along with she sunk the E-Boat ''S38'' off Southwold - the first E-Boat sunk during an attack on a coastal convoy. During 1941 and 1942 she continued escort duties for convoy defence off the East coast. In 1942 she was nominated to provide cover for the Dieppe Raid (Operation Jubilee) in August 1942. David Animle Hansen
Rear Admiral David Animle Hansen (17 May 1923 – 28 January 2008) was a Ghanaian naval officer who served as Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Administrative Committee from 1966 to 1967. He previously served as Commander of the Ghana Navy from 1962 to 1966. He was the first Ghanaian to be appointed head of the Ghana Navy. Hansen was also the founding director of the National Vocational Training Institute from 1970 to 1980. Early life and education Hansen was born on 17 May 1923 in Accra to John William Kojo Hansen and Joanna Nora Hansen. He began schooling at the Accra Royal School and continued to the Osu Presbyterian Senior School. He attended Accra Academy and graduated in 1942. Kwame Nkrumah (born 21 September 190927 April 1972) was a Ghanaian politician, political theorist, and revolutionary. He was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957. HMS ''Lookout'' was an L-class destroyer of the Royal Navy. She was launched on 4 November 1940 and broken up in 1948. She was one of only two L-class destroyers to survive the Second World War, the other being . Ordered under the 1937 Programme, Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company were awarded the contract to build her. She would be the second Royal Navy ship to bear the name ''Lookout''.
