''Ikarie XB-1'' is a 1963 Czechoslovak science fiction film directed by Jindřich Polák. It is based loosely on the novel '' The Magellanic Cloud'', by Stanisław Lem. The film was released in the United States, edited and dubbed into English, under the title ''Voyage to the End of the Universe''. Synopsis In the year 2163, the starship ''Ikarie XB-1'' (Ikarus XB-1) is sent to the mysterious "White Planet" orbiting the star Alpha Centauri. Travelling at near-light speed, the journey takes around 28 months for the astronauts, although the effects of relativity mean that 15 years will have elapsed on Earth by the time they reach their destination. ''Adelheid '' is a 1970 Czechoslovak drama film directed by František Vláčil, based on a 1967 novel of the same name by Czech writer Vladimír Körner. The story is about the complicated relationship between Czech man Viktor and German woman Adelheid, and about relationships between Czechs and Germans in postwar Czechoslovakia in general. Plot Discharged Czechoslovak lieutenant Viktor Chotovický ( Petr Čepek) returns to his homeland after spending much of the war in Aberdeen, Scotland employed at a RAF desk job. ''Case for a Rookie Hangman'' ( cs, Případ pro začínajícího kata) is a Czechoslovak drama film directed by Pavel Juráček. It was released in 1970. The movie belongs to the Czech New Wave. The movie can be classified as a surrealist or absurdist satire, and it is based loosely on the third book of '' Gulliver's Travels'' by Jonathan Swift, but the story is transferred to an early 20th-century world in decay. The movie shows also the influence of Franz Kafka and Lewis Carroll (''Alice's Adventures in Wonderland''). The satire is aimed at the Czechoslovak society, and the movie was soon banned after its release in 1970. That meant also the end of Juráček's career. It was released in the United Kingdom as ''Closely Observed Trains''. It is a coming-of-age story about a young man working at a train station in German-occupied Czechoslovakia during World War II. ''All My Compatriots'', also known as ''All My Countrymen'' ( cs, Všichni dobří rodáci), is a 1968 Czechoslovak film directed by Vojtěch Jasný. Considered the "most Czech" of his contemporary filmmakers, Jasný's style was primarily lyricist.Liehm, Antonin. Closely Watched Films: Vojtěch Jasný. 1974. It took nearly 10 years to complete the script and it was his greatest work. The movie was based on real people from Jasný's hometown Kelč. The Firemen's Ball
''The Firemen's Ball'' (or ''The Fireman's Ball''; cs, Hoří, má panenko - "Fire, my lady") is a 1967 comedy film directed by Miloš Forman. It is set at the annual ball of a small town's volunteer fire department, and the plot portrays a series of disasters that occur during the evening. The film uses few professional actors – some characters are played by the firemen of the small town where it was filmed. By portraying the prevailing corruption of the local community and the collapse of even well-intentioned plans, the film satirized the communist system.
