Cy Leonard
Cy Leonard (1926 – May 20, 2008) was a Canadian entertainer who was the first ventriloquist to perform on Canadian television. He also appeared on ''The Adventures of Tugboat Annie'', the first Canadian-made situation comedy. He made several guest appearances on CBC-TV's ''The Tommy Hunter Show'' and was a regular feature on ''The Uncle Bobby Show'', where his brother Ron Leonard was the featured magician. In 1941, Leonard joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was sent to entertain Allied troops in Europe. He also was hired by the Canadian government in 1978 and 1980 to entertain Canadian troops. Ventriloquist
Ventriloquism, or ventriloquy, is a performance act of stagecraft in which a person (a ventriloquist) creates the illusion that their voice is coming from elsewhere, usually a puppeteered prop known as a "dummy". The act of ventriloquism is ventriloquizing, and the ability to do so is commonly called in English the ability to "throw" one's voice. The Adventures Of Tugboat Annie
''The Adventures of Tugboat Annie'' is a 1957 Canadian-filmed comedy television series starring Minerva Urecal as Annie Brennan, the widowed captain of the tugboat "Narcissus," and Walter Sande as Horatio J. Bullwinkle, the captain of the "Salamander." The syndicated series lasted for 39 episodes. Situation Comedy
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. Tommy Hunter
Thomas James Hunter, CM, O.Ont (born March 20, 1937) is a Canadian country music performer, known as "Canada's Country Gentleman". Career In 1956, he began performing as a rhythm guitarist on the CBC Television show, '' Country Hoedown''. ''The Tommy Hunter Show'' began as a CBC Radio program in 1960, replacing the long-running variety show '' The Happy Gang'', and went on to replace ''Country Hoedown'' on CBC Television in 1965; Hunter's show was picked up by TNN in 1983 and ran on CBC until 1992. Uncle Bobby
''Uncle Bobby'' is a Canadian children's television show that aired from 1964 to 1979 on Toronto's CFTO and, for two years beginning in 1968, was a weekly show on the CTV television network (although it continued to be aired on local CTV stations across Canada thereafter). In its later run the show was known as ''Uncle Bobby and Friends'' and, in 1979, the show was renamed ''Kid's Corner'' and lasted for a few more years as a syndicated Saturday morning offering (and into the early 1990s in repeats on YTV). A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience.
