Cuzco School
The Cusco School (''Escuela cuzqueña'') or Cuzco School, was a Roman Catholic artistic tradition based in Cusco, Peru (the former capital of the Inca Empire) during the Colonial period, in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It was not limited to Cusco only, but spread to other cities in the Andes, as well as to present day Ecuador and Bolivia. Many colonial Cusco School paintings are preserved, most of them currently at Cusco, but also in other areas of Peru, the town of Calamarca (Bolivia) and in museums of Brazil, United States and England. Urcos District
The Urcos District is one of the twelve districts in the Quispicanchi Province in Peru. Created on January 2, 1857, its capital is the town of Urcos. The closest airport is the TBP Airport (Tumbes Pedro Canga), which is located about north-east of Urcos. Teresa Gisbert Carbonell
Teresa Gisbert Carbonell de Mesa (30 November 1926 – 19 February 2018) was a Bolivian architect and art historian. She specialized in the history of the Andean region. Biography Teresa Gisbert Carbonell was born on 30 November 1926 in La Paz, Bolivia. Her family emigrated from Spain. She earned a bachelor's degree in arquitecture and urbanism in the Higher University of San Andrés (La Paz) in 1950. After finishing her studies, Teresa Gisbert travelled to Spain, along with her husband José de Mesa, whom she had married in 1950, to complete her graduate studies in art history. De Mesa and Gisbert had four children: Carlos, Andrés, Isabel and Teresa Guiomar. During her staying in Spain, between 1953 and 1962,she served as a researcher at the Laboratory of Art of the University of Seville and at the Diego Velasquez Art Institute. Angelino Medoro
Angelino Medoro (1567–1631) was an Italian painter during the 17th-century, active in Latin America. His work in the Viceroyalty of Peru was greatly influential on the Cuzco School art movement. Biography Angelino Medoro was born in 1567 in present-day Italy, however there is conflicting information on the city of birth. He was born in either Rome, which was part of Papal States during this time; or Naples, which was part of the Kingdom of Sicily. Medoro is thought to have studied art in Rome, followed by travelled to Seville, and to New Kingdom of Granada (present-day Colombia). Luis de Riaño (1596–c. 1667) was a Peruvian criollo painter, active in the 17th-century. His work is an important representation of Cusco School, the Peruvian colonial painting style.
