Macon County, Alabama
Macon County is a county located in the east central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,532. Its county seat is Tuskegee. Its name is in honor of Nathaniel Macon, a member of the United States Senate from North Carolina. Developed for cotton plantation agriculture in the nineteenth century, the county is considered within the Black Belt of the South. It has had a majority-black population since before the American Civil War. History For thousands of years, this area was inhabited by varying cultures of indigenous peoples. Area code 334 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for southeastern Alabama. It was created on January 15, 1995, in an area code split from area code 205. and was the first new area code in Alabama since the implementation of area codes in 1947. To permit a transition period for the reconfiguration of equipment, such as computers and fax machines, use of area code 205 continued in the 334 region through May 13, 1995. Montgomery And West Point Railroad
The Montgomery and West Point Railroad (M&WP) was an early 19th-century railroad in Alabama and Georgia. It played an important role during the American Civil War as a supply and transportation route for the Confederate Army, and, as such, was the target of a large raid by Union cavalry in the summer of 1864, called Wilson's Raid. The railroad played an important role in this business, and it became a symbol to industrialization in the United States. The railroads make it possible to supply large military forces that were needed in order to take over and conquer the Southern part of the United States. During the early 19th-century, turnpikes, canals, and railroads all brought people to the west and more products to the east. Cross Keys is an unincorporated community in Union County, South Carolina. Historically, it was the site of the "large and prosperous" Cross Keys plantation. A post office was established at Cross Keys in 1809 and operated until 1909. The Cross Keys House, a plantation home built in 1812–1814, stood at the intersection of two important early highways (the Old Charleston Road, now known as Old Buncombe Road, and Old Ninety-Six Road, also known as the Old Piedmont Stage Road) and was a stop for early travelers in the area.
