Crisis Management Initiative
CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation is an independent Finland, Finnish non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and conflict resolution, resolve conflict through informal dialogue and mediation. Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari founded CMI in 2000. CMI has offices in Helsinki and Brussels as well as a presence in selected countries. CMI transformed from an association to a foundation on 1 May 2021. The organisation is officially registered as CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation sr. Function CMI states it is focused on contributing to peace processes in four regions: MENA, the Middle East and North Africa, Eurasia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. CMI states that it facilitates dialogue, mediates between conflicting sides, provides capacity-building and mediation support at all stages of conflict management and peace processes, and supports the broader peace building community. Martti Ahtisaari
Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari (; born 23 June 1937) is a Finnish politician, the tenth president of Finland (1994–2000), a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and a United Nations diplomat and mediator noted for his international peace work. Ahtisaari was a United Nations special envoy for Kosovo, charged with organizing the Kosovo status process negotiations, aimed at resolving a long-running dispute in Kosovo, which later declared its independence from Serbia in 2008. In October 2008, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts". Hussein Al-Taee
Hussein al-Taee (; born 19 May 1983) is a Finnish politician who served in the Parliament of Finland for the Social Democratic Party of Finland at the Uusimaa constituency between 2019 - 2023. Al-Taee has a strong background in peace building and mediation. Previously he worked as an advisor at the Finnish peace broker organization Crisis Management Initiative (CMI). Al-Taee holds a master's degree in international management. Early life Al-Taee was born in Baghdad. He moved to Finland as a quota refugee in 1993. The Free Aceh Movement ( id, Gerakan Aceh Merdeka, GAM; ace, Geurakan Acèh Meurdèka / Gěrakan Aceh Měrdeka) was a separatist group seeking independence for the Aceh region of Sumatra, Indonesia.
