Crime And Punishment (1970 Film)
''Crime and Punishment'' (russian: Преступление и наказание) is a 1969 Soviet drama film in two parts directed by Lev Kulidzhanov, based on the eponymous 1866 novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Plot Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-law student, kills an old pawnbroker and her sister, perhaps for money, perhaps to prove a theory about being above the law. He comes to police attention through normal procedures (he was the victim's client), but his outbursts make him the prime suspect of the clever Porfiry. Meanwhile, life swirls around Raskolnikov: his mother and sister come to the city followed by two older men seeking his sister's hand; he meets a drunken clerk who is then killed in a traffic accident, and he falls in love with the man's daughter, Sonia, a young prostitute. Lev Kulidzhanov
Lev Aleksandrovich Kulidzhanov (russian: Лев Александрович Кулиджанов; 19 March 1924 – 17 February 2002) was a Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter and professor at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. He was the head of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR (1965—1986). People's Artist of the USSR (1976). He directed a total of twelve films between 1955 and 1994. Biography Born on 19 March 1924 (according to other sources including his tomb — on 19 August 1923) in Tiflis, Transcaucasian SFSR. His father Aleksandr Nikolayevich Kulidzhanov (originally Kulidzhanyan) was an Armenian revolutionary who served as a high-ranking Communist Party official. He was arrested during the Great Purge of 1937 and disappeared without a trace. Kulidzhanov's mother Yekaterina Dmitriyevna was either of Russian or of Armenian descent. Maya Grigoryevna Bulgakova (russian: Ма́йя Григо́рьевна Булга́кова; 19 May 19327 October 1994) was a Soviet and Russian actress. She was one of the People's Artist of the RSFSR (1976). Biography Bulgakova was born on 19 May 1932 in the village of Buki (now the Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine). In 1941 the Bulgakov family moved to Kramatorsk, to this place they later returned from evacuation. In Kramatorsk, Bulgakova successfully graduated from high school and decided after graduation to become an actress. In 1955, Bulgakova graduated from VGIK (actor's workshop of Olga Pyzhova and Boris Bibikov) and started working in the National Film Actors' Theatre. In 1935, he graduated from the School of the Moscow Theater of the Revolution and became an actor of the theater. He made his film debut in the role of Captain Soroka in the ''Kubans''. Ivan Ryzhov died on the morning of 15 March 2004 in a Moscow hospital. According to his daughter, it happened due to negligence of the medical staff: the actor had fallen and cut his hand. In 1948 she graduated from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow and began to work as an actress at the National Film Actors' Theatre.
