Cover Girls
The Cover Girls are an all-female, New York city-based freestyle group that achieved most of its chart success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Among the group's best-known songs are " Show Me, " " Because of You," “ Don't Stop Now,” and "Wishing on a Star". History The Cover Girls were formed by music producer and songwriter Andy "Panda" Tripoli and music promoter and dance club owner Sal Abbatiello and was originally composed of singers Angel Mercado, Caroline Jackson and Sunshine Wright. The group released their first album, '' Show Me'', in late 1986. Five singles were released from this album, including the Top 40 ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hits "Because of You" and "Promise Me". The title track of the album was released as a 12-inch single prior to the album's release and was a Top 5 hit on the US dance chart. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. ''Here It Is'' is an album by the American music group the Cover Girls, released in 1992. "Wishing on a Star" peaked at No. 9 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100; "Funk Boutique" and "Thank You" peaked at Nos. 55 and 75, respectively. Production "Wishing on a Star" is a cover of the song made famous by Rose Royce. The album was recorded with new vocalist Michelle Valentine along with previous members Caroline Jackson and Evelyn Escalera. In 1990 Evelyn Escalera joined Carline Jackson and Margo Urban as the lead singer of the Cover Girls. The group released the song "Don't Stop Now" and was signed to Epic Records. The single for "Don't Stop Now" was released with the B-Side "Funk Boutique". Once Radio and Club DJ's began playing the B-Side "Funk Boutique" the song was quickly released as a single and promotion changed to favor "Funk Boutique". Todd David Cerney (August 8, 1953 – March 14, 2011) was an American songwriter and musician. He composed " Good Morning Beautiful", a 2002 five-week country number one (Billboard) hit for Steve Holy (co-written with Zack Lyle); "The Blues Is My Business" (co-written with Kevin Bowe), part of Etta James' 2003 Grammy Award-winning album "Let's Roll"; and "I'll Still Be Loving You", a 1987 country number one (Billboard) hit for Restless Heart (co-written with Pam Rose, Mary Ann Kennedy, and Pat Bunch). He and his co-writers were nominated for a Grammy Award for "I'll Still Be Loving You". The song won the 1988 award for "ASCAP Country Song of the Year". Angel Clivilles is the stage name used by Louise Angel Sabater, a Latina dance music singer of Puerto Rican descent. She was born in the Bronx, New York, United States. Music career Louise "Angel" Mercado began her musical career in 1986, as a member of the freestyle girl group the Cover Girls. Mercado left the Cover Girls in 1990 to embark on a solo career. ''American Bandstand'', abbreviated ''AB'', is an American music-performance and dance television program that aired in various versions from 1952 to 1989, and was hosted from 1956 until its final season by Dick Clark, who also served as the program's producer.
