Court Of Appeal Of The Yukon Territory
The Court of Appeal of Yukon (french: Cour d'appel du Yukon, links=no) is the highest appellate court for Yukon. It hears appeals of both criminal and civil cases from the Supreme Court of Yukon and Yukon Territorial Court. The Court of Appeal sits in both Whitehorse and Vancouver. Cases are mostly heard by a panel of three judges. The court consists of justices from the British Columbia Court of Appeal and justices from Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The Chief Justice of British Columbia serves as the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal for Yukon. A court of appeals, also called a court of appeal, appellate court, appeal court, court of second instance or second instance court, is any court of law that is empowered to hear an appeal of a trial court or other lower tribunal. Supreme Court Of Yukon
The Supreme Court of Yukon (SCY; french: Cour suprême du Yukon) is the superior court having general jurisdiction for the Canadian territory of Yukon. Civil and criminal cases are heard by the court, as well as appeals from the Yukon Territorial Court, the Yukon Small Claims Court and other quasi-judicial boards. The court is based in Whitehorse. Appeals from the court are made to the Court of Appeal of Yukon. The current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon is Suzanne Duncan. It was incorporated in 1950 and is located at kilometre 1426 (Historic Mile 918) on the Alaska Highway in southern Yukon. British Columbia Court Of Appeal
The British Columbia Court of Appeal (BCCA) is the highest appellate court in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It was established in 1910 following the 1907 Court of Appeal Act. The BCCA hears appeals from the Supreme Court of British Columbia and a number of boards and tribunals. The BCCA also hears criminal appeals from the Provincial Court of British Columbia where the proceedings in that court were by indictment. It will hear summary conviction appeals from the Supreme Court on criminal matters that originated in the Provincial Court.
