Concerto
A concerto (; plural ''concertos'', or ''concerti'' from the Italian plural) is, from the late Baroque era, mostly understood as an instrumental composition, written for one or more soloists accompanied by an orchestra or other ensemble. The typical three- movement structure, a slow movement (e.g., lento or adagio) preceded and followed by fast movements (e.g. presto or allegro), became a standard from the early 18th century. The concerto originated as a genre of vocal music in the late 16th century: the instrumental variant appeared around a century later, when Italians such as Giuseppe Torelli started to publish their concertos. A few decades later, Venetian composers, such as Antonio Vivaldi, had written hundreds of violin concertos, while also producing solo concertos for other instruments such as a cello or a woodwind instrument, and concerti grossi for a group of soloists. The first keyboard concertos, such as George Frideric Handel's organ concertos and Johann Sebastia ...

Concerto (Barraqué)
The Concerto for six instrumental formations and two solo instruments (vibraphone and clarinet) is a work composed by Jean Barraqué, started in 1962 and finished in 1968. History The initial impulse to write the Concerto came when Pierre Boulez wrote to Barraqué asking for a new work for the Domaine musical's 1962–63 season. Barraqué wrote back, suggesting the Concerto, and he began composing it on Easter Monday, 23 April 1962. He did not finish it at that time, however. He resumed work in the summer of 1968 in Perros-Guirec, and completed the score in Florence on 22 October of the same year. It was premiered on 20 November 1968 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, by Hubert Rostaing (clarinet), Tristan Fry (vibraphone), and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gilbert Amy. The manuscript score was dedicated on 20 March 1969 to Claude and Hubert Rostaing.; ; . Instrumentation There are two solo instruments, clarinet and vibraphone, accompanied by six instrumental form ...

One Night In Central Park
1 (one, unit, unity) is a number representing a single or the only entity. 1 is also a numerical digit and represents a single unit of counting or measurement. For example, a line segment of ''unit length'' is a line segment of length 1. In conventions of sign where zero is considered neither positive nor negative, 1 is the first and smallest positive integer. It is also sometimes considered the first of the infinite sequence of natural numbers, followed by  2, although by other definitions 1 is the second natural number, following  0. The fundamental mathematical property of 1 is to be a multiplicative identity, meaning that any number multiplied by 1 equals the same number. Most if not all properties of 1 can be deduced from this. In advanced mathematics, a multiplicative identity is often denoted 1, even if it is not a number. 1 is by convention not considered a prime number; this was not universally accepted until the mid-20th century. Additionally, 1 ...

Concertos (album)
''Concertos'' is the 31st album by Michael Nyman, released in 1997. It contains three concerti commissioned from Nyman, the Mazda-sponsored ''Double Concerto for Saxophone and Cello'', featuring John Harle and Julian Lloyd Webber, the ''Harpsichord Concerto'' for Elisabeth Chojnacka, and the ''Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra'' for Christian Lindberg. The album was intended as the first in a series of Nyman recordings, as it reads "NYMAN EDITION No1: Concertos" on the EMI label, but Nyman's only other release on EMI (until ''The Actors'' in 2003), ''The Suit and the Photograph'' does not have such designation. The album appeared just as completely clear jewel cases were being introduced, and the inside back cover is colored solid red, with the series designation in the left area that was previously hidden by the tray. ''The Suit and the Photograph'', however, was packaged in a standard grey-black tray. Nyman said of EMI, "I didn't excite them, and they didn't excite me."Mi ...

Concerto (ballet)
''Concerto'' is a one-act ballet in three movements created by Kenneth MacMillan in 1966 for the Deutsche Oper Ballet. The music is Dmitri Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto (1957). The ballet premiered on 30 November 1966. Production The ballet is plotless and consists of three movements. The first was originated by Didi Carli and Falco Kapuste. The second movement is a '' pas de deux'' originated by Lynn Seymour and Rudolf Holz, and was inspired by Seymour's warm up. MacMillan had said that he "decided to incorporate the idea of the barre work into the choreography." The man acts as a "barre" for the female dancer. The third and final movement was intended for a "playful" lead couple, but the male dancer broke his foot prior to the premiere, so MacMillan turned the pas de deux to a female solo, danced by Silvia Kesselheim. The ballet also includes a corps de ballet, that dances in unison, originally 16 women and 8 men. The original design by Jürgen Rose uses a yellow backdr ...
