Colton is the primary hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Colton in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 345, out of 1,451 in the entire town of Colton. The community is in central St. Lawrence County, in the northwest corner of the town of Colton. It is bordered to the west by the town of Pierrepont and to the north by the town of Parishville. It sits on both sides of the Raquette River, which drops in elevation through the hamlet, on its way north to join the St. Lawrence River near the Canadian border. Canton (village), New York
Canton is a village and county seat of St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The village is centrally located in both the town of Canton and the county of St. Lawrence. The population was 7,155 at the 2020 census. The name comes from the Chinese city of Canton (now Guangzhou). The village of Canton provides many municipal services such as a fully functional village highway department, water and sewer department, volunteer fire department, court system and a police department along with other municipal agencies. New York State Route 68
New York State Route 68 (NY 68) is an east–west state highway located entirely within St. Lawrence County in the North Country of New York in the United States. The western terminus is at an intersection with NY 37 in Oswegatchie, just west of the Ogdensburg city limits. The eastern terminus is at a junction with NY 56 in the hamlet of Colton within the town of Colton. Along the way, NY 68 passes through the village of Canton, where it overlaps with U.S. Route 11 (US 11) through the village. NY 68 was assigned in the mid-1920s, but only from Canton to Ogdensburg. Potsdam is a village located in the Town of Potsdam in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 8,312 at the 2020 census. Raquette River
The Raquette River ( moh, Ahná:wate), sometimes spelled Racquette, originates at Raquette Lake in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. long, it is the third longest river entirely in the state of New York. Parishville is a town in the east-central part of St. Lawrence County, east of Potsdam, in the state of New York, United States. The population was 2,153 at the 2010 census. History The town was laid out in 1809 on a tract of land that David Parish had purchased from J. D. Le Ray de Chaumont in 1808. The first settlers arrived around 1810.
