Cologne Carnival
The Cologne Carnival (german: Kölner Karneval) is a carnival that takes place every year in Cologne, Germany. Traditionally, the "fifth season" (carnival season) is declared open at 11 minutes past 11 on the 11th of the 11th month November. The Carnival spirit is then temporarily suspended during the Advent and Christmas period, and picks up again in earnest after 6 January, Epiphany, in the New Year. The time of merrymaking in the streets is officially declared open at downtown square "Alter Markt" on the Thursday before the beginning of Lent. Street carnival, a week-long street festival, also called " the crazy days", takes place between Fat Thursday (') and Ash Wednesday ('). The highlight of carnival is Rose Monday ('), two days before Ash Wednesday. All through these days, Cologne folks go out masqueraded. The typical greeting during the festival is ', a Kölsch phrase. "Trizonesien-Song" ('Trizonesia Song') is a humorous German Carnival song written by in 1948. It took on the role of a frivolous national anthem substitute for West Germany at a time when there was no official anthem. The song is a self-deprecating, ironic statement of the three western zones' unsolved constitutional status while the three powers, the United States, the United Kingdom and France, occupied the west of Germany. Querbeat are a German pop band formed in Bonn (Germany) in 2001. They tour mainly around Germany but they also perform at festivals across Europe, primarily in Austria, Switzerland, and Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium. History Querbeat was founded in 2001 as a school band of the Kardinal-Frings-Gymnasium in Bonn-Beuel. In the first years the band played on city events mainly in Bonn and the area around Bonn. Die 3 Colonias
Die 3 Colonias (; "the three Coloniad") is a music group from Cologne with many activities in the Cologne Carnival. Their predominant language of performances is Colognian. They were founded in 1976 by the Cologne Dieter Steudter. Trained confectioner Steudter ran his own café on the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring until the mid-1980s, when he had to give up for health reasons. Since the beginning of the 1970s, he began to compose and write and even to play in the carnival. He was accompanied by accordionist Walter Haarhaus. To emulate their role models, the Eilemann Trio, a bassist, Paul Rumpen, joined the group, followed two years later by Oliver Hoff. Their breakthrough had the group with the songs "Ja die Oma will nach Palma" and "Bier und nen Appelkorn". De Höhner ( Kölsch for "The Chickens", , ) is a band from Cologne, Germany. They sing in the local dialect of Cologne, Kölsch. The group was founded in 1972 by Peter Werner and Janus Fröhlich. During their first year, the band wore chicken costumes, and threw real feathers into the audience. They are particularly successful in the area around Cologne, although they are popular nationwide. The Bläck Fööss ( Ripuarian ''De Bläck Fööss'') are a music group from Cologne, Germany, started in 1970. Name of the band The band's name in Kölsch, a local dialect of Ripuarian, in which the group predominantly sings, means barefoot. It is pronounced .
