Cold Cold Hearts was a punk rock band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1995. Comprising singer and songwriter Allison Wolfe, guitarist and back-up vocalist Erin Smith, bass player Nattles, and drummer Katherine Brown, the band released one 7" single in 1996, and a full-length self-titled record the following year, both through Olympia, Washington-based label Kill Rock Stars. Kill Rock Stars is an independent record label founded in 1991 by Slim Moon and Tinuviel Sampson, and based in both Olympia, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. The label has released a variety of work in different genres, but was originally known for its commitment to underground punk rock bands and the Olympia area music scene. History Sampson and Moon initially started the label because, in Moon's words, "I just wanted to put out my friends' records because nobody was putting out my friends' records. Mark Richard Robinson (born 21 February 1967) is an American indie rock musician from Washington, D.C. who founded TeenBeat Records in 1984. Best known for founding Unrest (with Phil Krauth), he has also been a member of Air Miami, Flin Flon, Grenadine, and currently plays with his wife Evelyn Hurley (Blast Off Country Style) in Cotton Candy. He has released a number of solo records. His recordings are typically sparse, often featuring a carefully controlled guitar. Riot grrrl is an underground feminist punk movement that began during the early 1990s within the United States in Olympia, Washington and the greater Pacific Northwest and has expanded to at least 26 other countries. Riot grrrl is a subcultural movement that combines feminism, punk music, and politics. It is often associated with third-wave feminism, which is sometimes seen as having grown out of the riot grrrl movement and has recently been seen in fourth-wave feminist punk music that rose in the 2010s. Evelyn McDonnell is an American writer and academic. Writing primarily about popular culture, music, and society, she "helped to forge a new kind of feminism for her generation." She is associate professor of journalism and new media at Loyola Marymount University. Early life and education McDonnell was born in Glendale, California and grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin. Erin Smith (born August 16, 1972) in Washington, D.C., is best known for being the guitarist of riot grrrl band Bratmobile, a band with drummer Molly Neuman and vocalist Allison Wolfe. History Smith started her zine ''Teenage Gang Debs'' in 1987 with her brother Don. In 1991, she started interning at '' Sassy'' magazine, where she wrote articles about independent music and exposed girls to DIY culture. Also in 1991, Smith started playing guitar in Bratmobile with Molly Neuman on drums and Allison Wolfe on vocals. The band was active until 1994, when they went on hiatus.
