Club 24 de Setiembre, also known as 24 de Setiembre VP, is a Paraguayan football club based in Valle Pucú in the municipality of Areguá. It was founded on September 24, 1914, coinciding with the festivity of the Virgin of Mercy, patron saint of the community. It was affiliated to the Unión del Fútbol del Interior (UFI) until 2015, the club is multi-champion of the Liga Aregüeña de Fútbol, being two-time champions in 2014 and 2015. Affiliated to the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) in 2015, it has competed in its divisions since 2016. As of 2023, it plays in División Intermedia, the second division in the Paraguayan football league system, after finishing second in the 2022 Primera B Metropolitana. Areguá () is the capital of Central Department in Paraguay, located from the capital, Asunción. The city lies between Ypacaraí Lake to the east and hills to the west. Areguá is known for its colonial architecture and historic cobblestone streets. Areguá is known as the "City of Strawberries" due to its strawberry farms. Toponymy Areguá takes its name from its indigenous inhabitants, the Mbyá Guaraní, who inhabited the area before Spanish colonization. The local group were the ''Areguá'' ("those from above") referring to the area's high altitude. History Areguá was founded by Domingo Martínez de Irala in 1538. Early settlers, numbering about 200, lived close to the church. They were Mercedarians who arrived with the Spanish to raise cattle. African slaves were put to work on these farms. Alicio Solalinde
Alicio Ignacio Solalinde Miers (born February 1, 1952) is a Paraguayan former footballer who played as a forward and works as a coach. Career Born in Villeta, Solalinde began playing football for local side Olimpia de Villeta. He also played for Club Libertad and Club River Plate, but enjoyed his greatest success with Club Olimpia where he became a key player by winning several national and international titles such as the Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup in 1979. Solalinde also played for the Paraguay national football team from 1975 to 1981, where he obtained 32 caps and 4 goals. His most important achievement while playing for Paraguay is winning the 1979 Copa América. Primera División B Metropolitana
The Primera División B (''First Division B'': in English), also known as Primera División B Metropolitana or simply Primera B Metropolitana in order to distinguish it from the Primera División B Nacional, is the metropolitan tournament of the Paraguayan Tercera División. Only teams from the Gran Asunción metropolitan area and Central Department take part in this third division league. 2023 Paraguayan División Intermedia
The 2023 División Intermedia season, named ''"Homenaje a Don Alejandro Dos Santos"'', was the 105th season of the second-tier league of Paraguayan football and 26th under the División Intermedia name. The season began on 31 March and ended on 9 October 2023, and the fixtures for the season were announced on 14 December 2022. Sol de América won their fourth title in the competition, securing the championship with two rounds to go after a 2–1 victory over Martín Ledesma on 25 September. The other promoted team was 2 de Mayo, who clinched their promotion two rounds prior to the end of the season with a 1–1 draw with 3 de Febrero on 23 September. The División Intermedia ( en, Intermediate Division), also known as the Segunda División ( en, Second Division), is the second tier professional football league in Paraguay. It is organized by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol. Overview Since 1910 the second division tournaments have changed rules, number of teams and names. As of 2006, División Intermedia is the name for the second division and 16 teams are part of it. The champion and the runner-up of this league gains the right to participate in the Liga Paraguaya: Primera División, the Paraguay's top division of football. Virgin Of Mercy
The Virgin of Mercy is a subject in Christian art, showing a group of people sheltering for protection under the outspread cloak, or pallium, of the Virgin Mary. It was especially popular in Italy from the 13th to 16th centuries, often as a specialised form of votive portrait, and is also found in other countries and later art, especially Catalonia and Latin America. Usually the Virgin is standing alone, though if angels hold up the cloak, she is free to hold the infant Christ. She is typically about twice the size of the other figures. The people sheltered normally kneel, and are of necessity shown usually at a much smaller scale. The Unión del Fútbol del Interior ( en, Football Union of the Interior) or UFI is an association affiliated to the Paraguayan Football Association that was founded in 1927 to organize and govern football outside of Asunción, specifically on each of the different Departments of Paraguay. The UFI is constituted by the clubs and leagues that are part of the Departmental Football Federation from each Department in Paraguay. Club tournaments organized by the UFI gives chances to teams from all over Paraguay to reach the first division by clearing lower division levels.
