Clonkill GAA
Clonkill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Clonkill, County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is exclusively concerned with hurling and camogie. The club competes in Westmeath GAA competitions. The name "Clonkill" is translated from the Irish "Cluain Cille", meaning "church in the meadow" as is depicted in the club crest. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. All-Ireland Intermediate Club Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Club Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the second highest inter-county club hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year since the 2004-05 championship. The final, currently held on the third Saturday in January, is the culmination of a series of games played between October and January with the winners receiving the cup. The All-Ireland Championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. Currently qualification is limited to teams competing in the Connacht Championship, the Leinster Championship, the Munster Championship and the Ulster Championship. Niall Mitchell
Niall Mitchell(born 1997) is an Irish hurler who plays as a centre-forward for the Westmeath senior team. Born in Clonkill, County Westmeath, Mitchell first played competitive hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Clonkill club. He subsequently played with the club's senior team, winning a county championship medal in 2015. Mitchell made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was selected for the Westmeath minor team. He had two championship seasons with the minor team, before later joining the under-21 team. Mitchell made his debut with the Westmeath senior team during the 2016 championship. Brendan Murtagh
Brendan Murtagh (born 1983) is an Irish hurler. His league and championship career with the Westmeath senior team spanned twenty seasons from 2001 until 2020. Born in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Murtagh was educated at Mullingar Community College and later at Sligo Institute of Technology. He first played competitive hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Clonkill, before later joining the senior team. The highlight of Murtagh's club career was the winning of an All-Ireland medal in the intermediate grade in 2008. He also won a Leinster medal and six senior county championship medals. As a Gaelic footballer, Murtagh won two senior county championship medals with the Downs club. Murtagh made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he was selected for the Westmeath minor team. Luke Loughlin
Luke Loughlin (born 1994/1995) is a dual player of Gaelic games, who plays football for The Downs, hurling for Clonkill and also plays at senior level for the Westmeath county football team. He has also featured for the New York county football team. Loughlin is from Mullingar. He was a playing member of the team when Westmeath won the 2019 National Football League Division 3 league title by a goal against Laois at Croke Park. He has spoken openly about his struggles with addiction. Paddy Dowdall (born 1982) is an Irish hurler who currently plays as a midfielder for the Westmeath senior team. Dowdall joined the Westmeath team straight from the minor ranks in 2001, however, he didn't become a regular until the 2003 National League. Since then he was won two Christy Ring Cup medals and one National League (Division 2) medal.
