Clatskanie School District
The Clatskanie School District (6J) is a two-school public school district in Columbia County, Oregon, United States. It serves the city of Clatskanie and the surrounding area. Demographics In the 2009 school year, the district had 6 students classified as homeless by the Department of Education, or 0.7% of students in the district. Schools * Clatskanie Elementary School (CES) serves kindergarten through sixth grade students * Clatskanie Middle/High School (CMHS) combines middle school and high school and serves seventh grade through twelfth grade. At one time, there was a middle school and a high school, but they have merged into one school. The mascot for CMHS is the tigers, CES's mascot is the cougars, the former CMS mascot was the eagles. Columbia County, Oregon
Columbia County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 52,589. The county seat is St. Helens. Clatskanie, Oregon
Clatskanie is a city in Columbia County, Oregon, United States. It was named for the Tlatskanai Native American tribe, and the Clatskanie River which flows through the town and empties into the Columbia River about four miles to the north. The population was 1,737 at the 2010 census. History The town was originally called Bryantville after the large family who were among the first filers of Donation Land Claims in the area in 1852-53. However, the first postmaster, Enoch Conyers, who was married to one of the Bryant daughters, changed the name to Clatskanie after the Tlatskanai Native American tribe. Smith, ''Tlatskanai'' was a point in the Nehalem River that was reached from the Columbia River by way of the Youngs River or by way of the Clatskanie River. Clatskanie Middle/High School is a public school in Clatskanie, Oregon, United States that serves both middle school- and high school-age students. The current building opened in 1978 and now houses 462 students.
