Circumvesuviana () is a railway network in the east of the Naples metropolitan area, previously run by a company of the same name, now operated by Ente Autonomo Volturno. Electrically powered throughout, the system uses the narrow gauge of and operates of route on six lines. It is entirely separate from other national and regional railway lines. Ente Autonomo Volturno
The Ente Autonomo Volturno S.r.l., also known by the acronym EAV, is a company that operates in the sector of public transport by road, rail and cableway, in the Campania Region. It was born in 1904 on the initiative of the municipality of Naples as an independent body for the construction and management of a hydroelectric plant on the Volturno river, completed in 1909 and operational since 1916. Subsequently the body entered various other sectors including that of public transport with the purchase, in 1931, of the Azienda Tramviaria of the Municipality of Naples. Napoli Porta Nolana Railway Station
Napoli Porta Nolana station is the main and terminal station of the Circumvesuviana railways, today managed by the Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV). The station bears this name (derived from nearby Porta Nolana) since 2003; previously the station was simply called ''Napoli'', although it was known colloquially as ''Napoli Terminale''. History The station was opened for operation in 1843, as the Neapolitan terminus of the line for Caserta. Porta Nolana, Naples
The Porta Nolana is the remnant of one of the medieval city gates in Naples, Italy. It is located in Piazza Nolana, near a local train station, Napoli Porta Nolana with the Circumvesuviana lines, and a bustling local pedestrian market, Mercato di Porta Nolano, known for seafood. It takes its name from the road that lead to Nola.
