Ente Autonomo Volturno
The Ente Autonomo Volturno S.r.l., also known by the acronym EAV, is a company that operates in the sector of public transport by road, rail and cableway, in the Campania Region. It was born in 1904 on the initiative of the municipality of Naples as an independent body for the construction and management of a hydroelectric plant on the Volturno river, completed in 1909 and operational since 1916. Subsequently the body entered various other sectors including that of public transport with the purchase, in 1931, of the Azienda Tramviaria of the Municipality of Naples. Subsequently, it performed the tasks of contracting station and group which included railway and automobile transport operators as well as cable cars, such as Circumvesuviana, MetroCampania NordEst and SEPSA. Alifana
The Ferrovia Alifana is a former railway company of southern Italy. It held public passenger service on the rail line connection Naples to Piedimonte d'Alife (now Piedimonte Matese). In 2005 it was acquired by the MetroCampania NordEst (MCNE), another public company responsible of passenger transport in northern Campania. History The company was inaugurated on 30 March 1913, with a first service held on the line Naples P.zza Carlo III Station-Santa Maria Capua Vetere/S.Andrea dei Lagni-Biforcazione-Capua (43 km), with 11,000 V 25 Hz monophase AC electric traction. Herculaneum
Herculaneum (; Neapolitan and it, Ercolano) was an ancient town, located in the modern-day ''comune'' of Ercolano, Campania, Italy. Herculaneum was buried under volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Like the nearby city of Pompeii, Herculaneum is famous as one of the few ancient cities to be preserved nearly intact, as the ash that blanketed the town protected it against looting and elements. Although less known than Pompeii today, it was the first, and the only discovered buried Vesuvian city (in 1709) for a long time. Pompeii was revealed only in 1748 and identified in 1763. Sorrento (, ; nap, Surriento ; la, Surrentum) is a town overlooking the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy.
